Sophomore Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) and freshman Nastasia Tamarkin (Washington, D.C./School Without Walls) combined at No. 1 doubles against St. Bonaventure's Gabriella Bowe and Kahlei Reisinger.  The Red Flash duo earned a 6-1 win to improve to 8-6 this Spring.

At No. 2, junior Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and sophomore Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) met the Bonnies' Francesca Chin and Buse Gunay.  The SFU pair claimed a 6-1 win to clinch the doubles point and move to 6-2 in dual matches.

"I thought we came out and played some aggressive doubles right from the start and it was good to see," said Head Coach Rob Castille. "We wanted to make a point of being the more aggressive team and looking to make things happen and I thought we took a stride with this."

The Bonnies won the match at No. 3 doubles by default due to no SFU player available.

Seigford took on St. Bonaventure's Bowe at the top singles spot.  The SFU sophomore won the first set, 6-2, but fell 7-6, including 7-4 in the tiebreaker, in the second set.  In the final set, Seigford came out on top, 6-4.  Seigford now has five wins this Spring.

Gutierrez faced SBU's Reisinger at No. 2 singles.  The Red Flash sophomore dropped the first set, 7-5, but responded with a 7-6 win in the second set, including a 7-1 tiebreaker.  In a tight deciding set, Gutierrez battled for a 7-6 win, including a 7-4 tiebreaker.  Gutierrez picked up her fifth dual match win.

At No. 3, Bode matched up against the Bonnies' Dominique Mortier.  After falling 6-1 in the opening set, Bode bounced back in the next set for a 6-3 win.  In the final set, Bode came out on top, 6-2.  She is now 7-8 this Spring.

Tamarkin battled SBU's Gunay at No. 4.  The Red Flash rookie claimed the first set, 6-1.  She completed the straight-set victory with a 6-2 second set.  Tamarkin is now 10-4 this Spring.

Junior Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) met the Bonnies' Chin at No. 5.  The SFU junior dominated the opening set, 6-0.  In a tight second set, Miller won 7-5.  Miller improved to 9-5 in dual matches.

"I thought we could have played better singles today," said Castille. "However, I was pleased with the way we competed and just hung around, especially at the top three spots. I was also pleased with how we handled the pressure situations and we will take a lot of confidence from that. Hopefully we can fine tune some things tomorrow during practice before we take on a strong Duquesne team."

St. Bonaventure won the match at No. 6 singles by default due to no SFU player available.

The Red Flash faces Duquesne on Sunday in its final match before the NEC Tournament.  SFU meets the Dukes at 1 p.m. at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center in Pittsburgh.
