Saint Francis makes final road trip of the season

Loretto, Pa – The Saint Francis lacrosse team (4-9, 0-3 NEC) will make its final road trip of the 2018 season with games at Central Connecticut State on Friday, Apr. 20 at 3 p.m. and Bryant on Sunday, Apr. 22 at 1 p.m.

Scouting Central Connecticut State

The Blue Devils, owners of a 2-10 overall record and 1-2 record in conference play, defeated LIU Brooklyn 12-8 to pick up their only conference victory this season. Most of the Blue Devils attack flows through sophomore attacker Morgan Sinton who leads the team with 19 goals and 11 assists. Sophomore midfielder Megan Szalowski is second on the team with 16 goals and four assists. The Central Connecticut offense has struggled with its consistency, ranking seventh in the conference in goals per game (7.25).

Scouting Bryant

The Red Flash close out the weekend against the defending NEC champion Bryant Bulldogs on Sunday in Smithfield. The Bulldogs entered the 2017 NEC Tournament as the no. 1 seed and rolled through the tournament with a 17-10 win over Sacred Heart and 16-7 victory over Wagner in the final. The Bulldogs are currently 8-4 and have a perfect 3-0 record conference play this season. Junior Jess DeMeo, the 2017 NEC Offensive Player of the Year, leads the team with 45 goals through 12 games. Caitlin Breglia, along with teammate Jess DeMeo, earned first team all-league honors and is second on the team with 38 goals and 18 assists. The Bulldogs are a top defensive team in the conference with a goals against average of 8.67. Saint Francis is 0-9 all-time vs. the Bulldogs including a 16-6 loss last season.

Mazzur in Pursuit of Single-Season Assist Record

Senior Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) has recorded 15 assists through the first 13 games (1.15 assists per game) of the season and needs 12 to tie and 13 to surpass the program record of 27 set by Katie Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md./Hebron) in 2013. Mazzur ranks fourth in Saint Francis career assists with 47.

Saint Francis is two wins away from tying the school record for wins in a season with six and three wins away from setting the school record for wins in a season with seven. The Red Flash are looking to pick of their first NEC win this weekend and tie last years total.
