Women’s Tennis Begins NEC Tournament On Friday

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Women's Tennis team begins NEC Tournament play on Friday at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.  The Red Flash, the No. 3 seed, meets No. 6 seed Mount St. Mary's on Friday at approximately 11:30 a.m.
 
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach Rob Castille, is 5-11 overall and finished the regular season with a 3-1 record in NEC play.  Last weekend, Saint Francis defeated St. Bonaventure, 6-1, but fell 7-0 at Duquesne.  The Red Flash earned a 5-2 win over Mount St. Mary's on April 7.
 
In the win over St. Bonaventure, the Red Flash won all five singles and both doubles matches it played. 
 
Freshman Nastasia Tamarkin (Washington, D.C./School Without Walls) leads the team with a 10-5 record this Spring, playing her last seven matches at No. 4.  Junior Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) is 9-6 in dual matches, including a 4-3 record at No. 5. 
 
Junior Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) owns seven wins at No. 3, while sophomore Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) has five wins at No. 1 and sophomore Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) has five victories at No. 2.
 
Gutierrez and Tamarkin are 8-7 in doubles, playing all of their matches at the top doubles spot.  Bode and Seigford own a 6-3 record at No. 2.
 
Mount St. Mary's, coached by Samantha Pinchoff, is 4-15 overall and has a 2-3 record in NEC matches.  Last week, the Mount defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-3, but fell 5-2 against Bucknell and 7-0 at Delaware.
 
Alexa Quintanilla has six wins this season at No. 1 singles, while Hannah Davis owns six wins at No. 2 and Megan Smith has five wins this Spring.  Davis and Quintanilla are 8-11 at the top doubles position.
