WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Saint Francis Women's Tennis team fell 4-3 against Mount St. Mary's on Friday in the NEC Quarterfinals at the Mercer County Tennis Center. The Red Flash finished the season with a 5-12 record, while Mount St. Mary's improved to 5-15.
At the No. 2 doubles position, junior
Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and sophomore
Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) took on Mount's Sruthi Kamprath and Megan Smith. The Red Flash duo earned a 6-1 win to move to 7-3 on the season.
Sophomore
Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) and freshman
Nastasia Tamarkin (Washington, D.C./School Without Walls) competed at No. 1 against Mount St. Mary's Hannah Davis and Alexa Quintanilla. In an extremely tight set, the SFU pair fell 7-6, including a 9-7 tiebreaker. Gutierrez and Tamarkin finished the Spring with an 8-8 mark.
In the match at No. 3, sophomore
Kathryn Dunleavy (Farmington Hills, Mich./Mercy) and junior
Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) faced Mount's Emma Blake and Megan Gamble. The SFU duo dropped a 6-4 decision.
Bode met Mount St. Mary's Kamprath at No. 3. The SFU junior took the first set, 6-1. She completed the straight-set victory with a 6-4 second set. Bode improved to 8-9 in dual matches.
Tamarkin matched up with Mount's Gamble at No. 4. The Red Flash rookie claimed the opening set, 6-4. Tamarkin completed the sweep with a 6-1 second set. She finished her freshman season with an 11-5 record in dual matches.
At No. 6, Dunleavy battled Mount's Emma Blake. The SFU sophomore dominated the first set, winning 6-0. In a tight second set, Dunleavy came out on top, 7-5. Dunleavy earned a win in her first match of the Spring.
In the match at No. 1, Seigford faced Mount St. Mary's Quintanilla. However, the SFU sophomore fell 6-2, 6-4. Seigford finished the season with five wins at No. 1.
Gutierrez met Mount's Davis at the No. 2 position. The SFU sophomore dropped the first set, 6-2, but responded with a 6-3 win in the next set. In the final set, Gutierrez fell 6-2. She also finished the year with five wins at No. 2.
At No. 5, Miller competed against Mount's Smith. The Red Flash junior took the first set, 6-1, but Smith won the second set, 6-4. In the deciding set, Miller dropped a 6-4 decision. She ended the Spring with a 9-7 record.
