Early scoring run costs SFU at Bryant

Smithfield, RI – The first-place Bryant Bulldogs used a quick start to put away the Saint Francis lacrosse team (5-10, 1-4 NEC) 21-6 on Sunday afternoon. The Red Flash received two goals and an assist from senior Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic).

Turning Point

The Bulldogs scored 12 straight goals before the Red Flash put a tally on the board. Senior Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) and freshman Emileigh Scott (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) scored back-to-back goals for Saint Francis, but Bryant quickly responded with a goal of their own and took a 13-2 lead into the half. In the second half, Saint Francis was outscored by Bryant 8-4.

  • Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge), Morgan Day (New Park, Pa./Kennard Dale), Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), and Emileigh Scott (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) each scored a goal for the Red Flash.

  • Scott continues to impress in draw controls for the Red Flash as she won 9 in the loss.

  • Peyton LeConte (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) had a team high two ground balls for Saint Francis.

  • Amanda Heidt (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Katie Page (Columbus, Ohio /Bishop Hartley) each caused a Bryant turnover.

  • Bryant finished with a 36-16 advantage in shots and a 26-13 advantage in shots on goal.

  • The Bulldogs finished with a 17-9 edge in ground balls.

  • The Red Flash continue to win the draw control battle as they had a 14-13 advantage.

Saint Francis will make their final home stand of the 2018 season as they host LIU Brooklyn on Friday, Apr. 27 at 12 p.m. and Sacred Heart on Sunday, Apr. 29 at 12 p.m. Sunday's game will serve as the final home game for Kelly Aquino (Ellicott City, Md./Howard), Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge), Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic), and Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial). All four seniors will be honored before first draw.
