Saint Francis lacrosse team breaks single season win record in 14-10 victory

Loretto, Pa – The Saint Francis lacrosse team (7-10, 3-4 NEC) celebrated its four seniors on Sunday in a 14-10 win against Sacred Heart (2-14, 2-5). The senior attacking trio of Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic), and Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) led the way for Saint Francis, as they each found the back of the net in their final home game at DeGol Field.

Concheck's Reaction

"I am proud of this team and these seniors for ending the season on a high note," said head coach Kara Concheck. "These seniors have left the program better off than when they entered it and that is a testament to their hard work. I am excited for them to go out with a win."

Turning Point

After Sacred Heart's Cassie Cesario tied the game at eight, the Red Flash responded with a 4-0 run giving them a 12-8 lead with 21:01 remaining in the game. Freshman Emileigh Scott (Ellicott City, Md./Howard), and seniors Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge), Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic), and Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored the goals during that stretch.

Notes

  • The stingy defense of the Red Flash led in part by senior Kelly Aquino (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) allowed the Red Flash to maintain their lead over the span of the final 20 minutes of the game.

  • Eilis Hagan (Damascus, Md./Damascus) caused four of the Pioneers eight turnovers.

  • Ashley Stoessel (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) made 10 saves on 20 shots.

  • Livia Baker (Fallston, Md./Fallston High School) and Morgan Day (New Park, Pa./Kennard Dale) netted two goals each in the win.

  • Emileigh Scott (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) won a team-high eight draw controls.

  • Aquino, Fischetti, Mazzur, and Mahon were all honored before the game. The group is the most winningest class in program history.

Inside the Numbers

  • Shots finished 31-29 in favor of the Red Flash and shots on goal were 21-20.

  • Sacred Heart edged Saint Francis 26-16 in ground balls and was successful on 16-17 of their clear attempts.

  • Saint Francis won the draw control battle 16-10.

  • Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) finished the season with 21 assists, tied fifth highest single-season output in school history.

  • Saint Francis finishes the season with seven overall wins breaking the school record for most wins in a single season. The Red Flash also had three conference wins, breaking another single season record.
