Field hockey finalizes class of eight

Loretto, Pa. - The Saint Francis field hockey team wrapped up its 2018 signing class on Monday by adding five new members to the fold, bringing the class total to eight.

Agustina Deharbe (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Catherine's Moorlands), Mary-Anner Nortier, Atina Pagani (Concepcion Del Uruguay/Instituto Santa Teresito), Natalie Scheib (Herndon, Pa./Line Mountain) and Avian Thompson (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) will join Ashlynn Lennon (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley), Grace Knepshield (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Kate Viera (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown), who signed earlier in the signing window.

In total, head coach Beatta Ceretta brings in two international student-athletes, five players from Pennsylvania and one from Rhode Island. The class consists of two goalkeepers, two defenders, two midfielders and two forwards.

Deharbe, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, played her club for St. Catherine's Moorlands. She was selected to the Buenos Aires Schools Sports Association Team on two separate occasions.
 
Ceretta's Reaction: "Agustina is a talented midfielder/ forward possessing great vision and decision-making abilities on and off the ball. She is skilled and has played at a high level representing her high school and club in Argentina."

 
M | Mary-Anne Nortier (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) | Hershey, Pa.
 
Nortier was a part of two Keystone Division Championships at Hershey High School, earning Mid-Penn Keystone Conference First Team All-League honors. She was also named a Second Team PennLive All-Star.
 
She played her club hockey for Spooky Nook Field Hockey Academy.
 
Ceretta's Reaction: "We are thrilled to welcome Mary-Anne to the team. Her fitness and stick skills will help raise the level of play we hope to achieve this fall."


F | Atina Pagani (Concepcion Del Uruguay/Instituto Santa Teresito) | Concepcion Del Uruguay
 
Atina is a top talent in Argentina, starring for Instituto Santa Teresita and Hipico Concordia. She was a part of the Argentinian U18 National Team, training for the Youth Olympic Games in 2018. With Hipico Concordia, Pagani helped her team win the Dos Orillas Tournamnet in 2017.
 
Ceretta's Reaction: "Atina will be a strong addition to the team. Her game sense and skill will pay dividends immediately on the field."


F | Natalie Scheib (Herndon, Pa./Line Mountain) | Herndon, Pa.
 
Scheib was a letterwinner at Line Mountain High School in Herndon, Pennsylvania and one of the top scoring threats in the Tri-Valley League. She was named a Tri-Valley League First Team All-Star at the conclusion of the 2017 season.
 
Ceretta's Reaction: "We are excited to welcome Natalie to the team this fall. Her record on attack speaks for itself. She will surely be an asset on the forward line."


GK | Avian Thompson (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) | Hummesltown, Pa.
 
Thompson earned 2017 Mid-Penn Keystone Conference Honorable Mention Accolades at Lower Dauphin High School. She played her club hockey for East Coast Field Hockey Club.
 
Ceretta's Reaction: Avian is a talented keeper who is aggressive and takes charge in the cage. We think she will be a great addition to the goalkeeping unit and the team as she will challenge our players in new ways while in the net."


Below are the three players to originally have committed to the class:
 
D | Grace Knepshield (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) | Pittsburgh, Pa.
 
Knepshield attended Fox Chapel High School in Pennsylvania, where she was a four-year varsity starter and two-time team captain for the Foxes. She was a three-time All-Section selection as well as a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, team MVP, and an All-Western PA first team all-star.
 
Ceretta's Reaction: "Grace has a great sense of the game and solid defensive skills that will immediately impact this team in a positive way next season. We look forward to having her at Saint Francis next fall."


D | Ashlynn Lennon (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley) | Elverson, Pa.
 
A three-sport athlete at Twin Valley High School, Lennon was a four-time All-Conference performer in field hockey.
 
Lennon, a team captain as a senior, helped Twin Valley qualify to the PIAA State Tournament all four seasons. The Raiders were the 2015 PIAA AA State Champions and Semifinalists in 2017.

Lennon showed steady improvement over her high school career, earning Berks II All-Division Second Team accolades as a freshman and sophomore and First Team honors as a junior and senior.

She also stars for her club team, Excalibur.
 
Ceretta's Reaction: "Ashlynn is a relentless defender who makes smart decisions and is willing to sacrifice her body to win the ball. Her competitive spirit on the field will be a great addition to our team this coming fall."
 
 
M/F | Kate Viera (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown) | Providence, R.I.
 
Viera attended Moses Brown High School in Rhode Island, where she received first team all-division and tournament MVP (All Tournament Team) honors her senior season. Last season, she was awarded all-tournament team, second team all-division, and second team all state.
