Olszewski secures first recruiting class

Loretto, Pa. - First-year head men's soccer coach Frank Olszewski has completed his inaugural signing class by adding seven players for the 2018 Fall season.

The class consists of two goalkeepers, three defenders and two forwards. Olszewski signed two internationals, two players from Maryland and one each from Pennsylvania, Delaware and Missouri.

"We are very pleased with this incoming class of student-athletes," said Olszewski. "We feel that this high-character group will make a great addition to the direction that we are heading and benefit the outstanding team chemistry that has been evolving. It is a talented and hungry group of young men."

Assaro spent his freshman season at CCBC Essex C.C., helping the team to a Maryland JUCO Region XX Championship.
 
Assaro played club soccer for the Baltimore Bays Chelsea Academy and Baltimore Armour from his freshman through junior seasons before moving to Baltimore Celtic, the top-ranked club team in the country. He helped the club to a State Cup Championship in 2018.
 
Due to his obligations for his Academies, Assaro was only eligible for his senior season at Calvert Hall H.S.  In that season, Assaro led the Cardinals to a No. 1 ranking in the state and a MIAA Championship.
 
Assaro's father, Frank, played for Saint Francis head coach Frank Oslzewski at Towson University.
 
Olszewski on Assaro – "We are happy John decided to attend SFU. He has played at some of the highest levels of youth soccer, competing in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy and in the upcoming national championships (USYSA). He is a very intelligent player and understands that details make a difference."

Berhorst enjoyed a stellar prep career at Seckman High School, finishing as the school's career leader in goals with 76. He netted 19 goals to go along with 10 assists as a junior to earn Class 4 All-State Honorable Mention. He bested that mark as a senior, ranking seventh in the state of Missouri in goals with 32 and eighth in points after chipping in with 11 assists. He was placed on the Class 4 All-State Second Team and was named the Suburban West All-Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
 
 Berhorst played his club ball for the Lou Fusz Soccer Club of the National League.
 
Olszewski on Berhorst – "Ryan is another player who comes from an outstanding club in Lou Fusz from the St.Louis area, having been mentored by Coach Dave Geerling. He brings a refreshing enthusiasm to our attack. His work ethic in generating attacking opportunities is outstanding and he has the quality to finish off chances."
 

GK | Jonas Dieseler (Berlin, Germany) | Berin, Germany | F.C. Monchengladbach
 
Dieseler is a 6'1" goalkeeper from F.C. Monchengladbach of the U-19 Niederrheinliga. Prior to his time with F.C. Monchengladbach, he played for Fortuna Dusseldorf.
 
Olszewski on Dieseler – "Jonas most recently excelled at some of the highest levels of German soccer in Fortuna Duseldorf and FC Monchengladbach. He has a high upside as a player and is a commanding presence in the goal. We feel that he should be able to continue to grow in all aspects of the position."


F | Shany-Jo Takala Kayo | Poolesville, Md. | D.C. United 

A member of the D.C. United Academy, Kayo appeared in 16 matches last season, tallying a goal and three assists. He has split time between the Bethesda and D.C. United Academies since entering high school.
 
Olszewski on Kayo – "Shany has the potential to be an exciting attacking player. He loves to get forward and has the pace that puts him in great positions. He is equally adept in going to goal, as he is making an insightful pass. His background in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with D.C. United, under the guidance of Coach Nate Kish, and at Bethesda-Olney with Coach Matt Ney and Technical Director Jonathon Colton, has put him on the right path."

A three-year letterwinner at Appoquinimink H.S., Laurinavicius helped the Jaguars achieve a No. 2 state ranking in each of his three seasons and appear in two state title games, amassing a 38-5-2 combined record. An anchor of the defense, Laurinavicius helped the Jaguars record 17 clean sheets.
 
Olszewski on Laurinivicius – "Danilo comes to us with a great deal of versatility as a defender who has played centrally, but would also be comfortable as a wide defender. He has such a positive attitude which will allow him to continue to grow. He impresses us with his team first approach to things and that is infectious."
 

 GK | Alex Morgret | Hummelstown, Pa. | LDC United
 
A standout goalkeeper at Hershey High School, Morgret earned All Mid-Penn Keystone Division First Team All-Conference as a junior and senior and First Team PennLive honors as a senior. Named one of PA Preps top high school goalkeepers in the state of Pennsylvania, he received Hershey's Team MVP Award in 2017, helping the Trojans to a 13-4-6 record and place in the State Quarterfinals. For his high school career, he totaled 340 saves and 27 clean sheets in three seasons.
 
Morgret plays club for LDC United, the fourth ranked club in the state and the 2015 Pennsylvania State Champions.

Olszewski on Morgret – "Alex is an outstanding athlete who will be a great addition to our goalkeeping corps. He played under an outstanding coach in long-time professional coach, Bill Becher. He has the ability to make that big save to keep his team in the game."

D | Colin Serredszum (Montpellier, France) | Montpellier, France | F.C. Metz

 Serredszum has gained valuable experience playing against some of the top talent in France with his club F.C. Metz of the French Ligue 1. The defender has helped the club to four clean sheets over his last eight appearances.
 
Olszewski on Serredszum – "Colin come to us from Ligue 1 in France having competed for FC Metz, one of the storied French clubs who have developed a great reputation in player development. He is a versatile defender who is equally comfortable central or wide. We were impressed not only by his overall ability, but his leadership potential, and his willingness to help the team in any capacity. We are very excited to have him join our program."
