Loretto, Pa – The Saint Francis Red Flash field hockey team (1-1) looks to bounce back after its loss against Miami (OH) as the Red Flash remain on the road for two games against Georgetown on Sunday, Sept. 2 at noon and Sacred Heart on Monday, Sept. 3 at 11 a.m.
Scouting Georgetown
The Hoyas' season has gotten off to a hot start, winning contests against Davidson and Appalachian State by the scores of 1-0 and 2-0. Last season, Georgetown went 9-10, going 1-6 in Big East Conference play. Freshman goalkeeper Ciara Weets is adjusting well to collegiate play making eight saves and not allowing a goal in her first two career starts at Georgetown. The Hoyas are 5-2 all-time against the Red Flash with the most recent meeting in 2016 resulting in a 2-1 Red Flash overtime victory.
Scouting Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart also enters the weekend unbeaten with a 2-0 record. The Pioneers defeated Lock Haven 3-2, and then Lehigh 2-1. In 2017, the Pioneers posted a 7-12 record. In addition, Sacred Heart returns two of their top-four point-getters from 2017, Kelsy Hopkins and Allie Brouhard. The two returning upperclassmen will serve as leaders and scoring options for Sacred Heart this season. The Pioneers lead the all-time series against the Red Flash 11-3 with the most recent meeting coming in 2016 resulting in a 3-2 Pioneer victory.
First Goals
The first four goals of the season were scored by four different Red Flash players. Brea Seabrook (Wilkes Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial), Livvy Webb (Easton, Md./Saints Peter and Paul), Taylor Nesmith (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), and Atina Pagani (Concepcion Del Uruguay/Instituto Santa Teresito) all scored in the 4-0 victory over Ball State on Friday. Freshman Atina Pagani's (Concepcion Del Uruguay/Instituto Santa Teresito) goal was the first of her Red Flash career.
