Men's soccer set to host NEC Championships

Loretto, Pa. – Saint Francis men's soccer is set to host the 2019 Northeast Conference Men's Soccer Championships Nov. 15-17 at Stokes Soccerplex. The No. 1 seed Red Flash will host No. 4 seed Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday at 1:30 p.m., while No. 2 seed LIU will face No. 3 seed Bryant on Friday at 10:30 a.m. The winners will meet in the championship match at Stokes Soccerplex on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Scouting Fairleigh Dickinson
The Knights (7-8-2, 3-4-2 NEC) earned the final playoff spot following a 5-0 drubbing of Mount St. Mary's in the season finale. Fairleigh Dickinson fell to all three tournament opponents earlier this season, beginning with a 3-1 defeat to Saint Francis on Oct. 6. FDU dropped a 1-0 decision to LIU on Oct. 18 and lost 1-0 to Bryant on Nov. 1. The Knights are led by Diego Arribas with 21 points on eight goals and five assists.
 
Scouting LIU
The Sharks (9-7-1, 6-2-1 NEC) are coming off a 3-0 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn in the final game of the regular season. LIU closed the season winning five of its last six games. The Sharks defeated all three tournament opponents earlier this season, starting with a 3-2 overtime win over Saint Francis on Sept. 27. LIU knocked off Fairleigh Dickinson 1-0 on Oct. 18 and beat Bryant 2-0 on Oct. 28. The Sharks are led by Papa Ndoye with 15 points on seven goals and an assist, while Kyle Parish has 14 points on five goals and four assists.
 
Scouting Bryant
The Bulldogs (8-7, 5-4 NEC) closed the regular season with a 2-0 defeat at Merrimack. Bryant is 1-2 against the three tournament opponents this season as the team fell to Saint Francis 3-1 on Oct. 13, dropped a 2-0 decision to LIU on Oct. 28 and knocked off Fairleigh Dickinson 1-0 on Nov. 1.
 
Scouting Saint Francis
The Red Flash (10-5, 7-2 NEC) locked up the No. 1 seed in the playoffs following a 3-0 victory over Robert Morris on senior day. SFU closed the season winning three straight matches. The Red Flash are 2-1 against the three tournament opponents with a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime defeat to LIU on Sept. 27. Saint Francis then knocked off Fairleigh Dickinson 3-1 on Oct. 6 and defeated Bryant 3-1 on Oct. 13. The Red Flash are led by Lucas Rosa (Atibaia, Brazil/COC Atibaia) who ranks first in the NEC in points (24), goals (11) and game-winning goals (6).
 
Hosting the NEC Championships
Saint Francis is hosting the NEC Championships for the first time since 2014 and only the second time in program history. The Red Flash are searching for its first-ever tournament title and NCAA berth.
