LORETTO, Pa.- Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove), for the second time this season, has won the NEC Player of the Week honor.
Collecting her second weekly award of the season, Norton continued her stellar beginning to the season with a monstrous weekend at the plate. The senior led the Red Flash to a pair of wins at the Gardner Webb Tournament, going 10-for-16 with three home runs, 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored. She produced in both of SFU's wins starting with a 16-10 victory over East Tennessee State on Friday where she went 3-4, drove in three and crossed home plate on four occasions. Norton opened up the scoring for her team with a two-run blast in the bottom of the first that gave SFU a 2-1 advantage. She then singled in a run in the fourth as the Red Flash came back from a 7-4 deficit. Norton knocked in another three as SFU won its final game of its weekend with a 12-7 conquest of Bowling Green on Sunday. The Spring Grove, PA product hit another two-run shot in the first inning, before going yard again in the fifth that gave the Red Flash a lead they would not relinquish. She finished 4-5 and scored four runs. Norton wrapped the week with a robust 1.375 slugging percentage, and is slugging 1.114 on the year. She also moved into a tie for second on SFU's all-time hits list (196), and is one home run shy of tying the
Jordan Seneca's (Plum, Pa./Plum) record of 48 round trippers.
The Red Flash return to action at the Easton Crimson Classic this weekend against Michigan State, Southern Miss, and nationally ranked Alabama.
