SFU travels to ECU for Sunday Showdown

Loretto, Pa –The Saint Francis lacrosse team (0-3) remain on the road as it travels to East Carolina to take on the Pirates (4-1) in a Sunday, March 3. afternoon showdown.

Scouting East Carolina

In its second season as a program, East Carolina is off to a hot start. The Pirates enter Sunday's match with a 4-1 overall record, with its only loss coming on the road at North Carolina. At home, ECU is 2-0, with wins over Winthrop and Gardner-Webb. Megan Pallozzi has been at the forefront of the ECU attack with a team-high 11 goals followed by Nicole LeGar with nine. Ally Stanton is another capable scorer for the Pirates as she leads the team with 15 points on seven goals and eight assists. On the defensive end, Camryn Pennypacker leads the team with six caused turnovers. Between the pipes for ECU is goalkeeper Christina White. The sophomore has made 60 saves and has posted a .526 save percentage in the team's first five games this season.

Looking to Repeat

Last season, Saint Francis defeated East Carolina 12-7 in Loretto. The difference in the game was the Red Flash defense as it was able to shut down the Pirates offense for the opening 21 minutes of the game allowing the offense to build an early 5-1 advantage. Peyton LeConte (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) was all over the field, collecting six ground balls and causing five turnovers. Ashely Stoessel's defensive presence did not go unnoticed as she stopped 11 of the 18 shots she faced.

Veteran Leadership

The Red Flash attack is led by senior Morgan Day (New Park, Pa./Kennard Dale) and junior Livia Baker (Fallston, Md./Fallston High School). The two have combined for 21 points and are credited with 11 of 19 SFU goals this season. In last season's match with ECU, the duo made an impact on the offensive end. Most notably, Day who tallied two goals on five shots. The senior will try to replicate last year's game with another multi-goal game on Sunday.

Defense can be the Difference

Saint Francis will be looking for its defense to make plays again in this year's go-around at East Carolina. SFU will rely on Katie Page (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) and Peyton LeConte (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) to cause havoc, the duo has caused 12 turnovers and collected 11 ground balls. Goalkeeper Ashely Stoessel looks to repeat last year's performance where she posted a  61% save percentage against the Pirates.
