BOX SCORE Kent, Ohio – Saint Francis field hockey lost to Michigan State, 7-0, on Saturday at Murphy-Mellis Field.
The Red Flash battled hard against the Spartans, but it was not enough as Michigan State pulled away in the second half. The defense started strong, only giving up one goal in the first quarter. In the second, Michigan State scored twice, one coming with less than 30 seconds remaining. The Spartans did not look back in the second half, scoring once in the third and three more times in the fourth.
The Red Flash could not break through the Spartan defense, as they were outshot 24-8 (15-4). Taylor Nesmith (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) registered three of the shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Claudia Marzec (Whitinsville, Mass./Moses Brown School) stopped eight shots.
The Red Flash will be traveling to New Haven, Conn. on Friday, September 6 for their next match against Sacred Heart at 2 pm.
