Women's soccer hosts Bryant in NEC action Friday

Loretto, Pa. - Saint Francis women's soccer (2-5-1) has it home NEC opener against Bryant (3-3-2) on Friday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. The game will also serve as a Soccer Without Borders fundraiser. Donations will be accepted at the game and t-shirts will be available for sale for $10.

Scouting Bryant
The Bulldogs are coming off a 1-1 tie against Central Connecticut last Friday. Bryant recorded a 3-1 win over Merrimack in its NEC opener on Sept. 9. Remi Manna leads the team with eight points on three goals and two assists. Amanda Spitaleri has six points on two goals and two assists.

Series History
Saint Francis is 7-2-1 in the all-time series history against Bryant since the programs started competing in the NEC in 2009. The teams tied in last season's meeting 1-1 in Smithfield, RI on Sept. 30, 2018. SFU is a perfect 5-0 when playing the Bulldogs in Loretto.

Red Flash Win NEC Opener
Saint Francis defeated Mount St. Mary's 2-1 in double overtime in the NEC opener last Friday. SFU opened conference play with a win for the third straight season and the 11th time in the past 12 seasons. The Red Flash defeated the Mountaineers for the eleventh straight match.

McGhee Named Player of the Week
Senior forward Alyssa McGhee (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) was named NEC Player of the Week as announced on Tuesday. McGhee scored the game-winner in the 101st minute of Saint Francis', 2-1 double overtime victory at the Mount in the NEC opener. The senior forward had a hand in both goals for the Red Flash, first setting up teammate Dakota Graham (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area), who buried a goal to tie the game in the 60th minute. Graham then returned the favor in extra time, sending a long ball that the Altoona, Pa. product redirected for the golden goal.

Hernan Guarding the Goal
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Julia Hernan (Collegeville, Pa./The Hill School) has made a name for herself with her shot stopping ability. Hernan has 33 saves through eight matches, including four in SFU's win at Mount St. Mary's. The program's all-time leader in career clean sheets with 23, Hernan has 70 starts under her belt.
