Women's tennis unable to overcome Lehigh

Bethlehem, Pa. – Saint Francis women's tennis was unable to overcome Lehigh in a 7-0 defeat on Saturday at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.

Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) played No. 1 singles for the first time this season and dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Lehigh's Sibel Can. The Mountain Hawks' Paula Gonzalez knocked off Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 7-5. SFU's Anouk Ma-Ajong (Paramaribo, Suriname/Sagemont) picked up the first set before falling at No. 3 singles to Junmoke James, 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.

Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru/San Juan Bosco) battled back after dropping the first set to force a decider before ultimately falling at No. 4 to Lehigh's Ella Imhof, 6-4, 5-7, 10-4. In No. 5 singles, the Red Flash's Camryn Rossa (Charleston, SC/Oceanside Collegiate) fell to Casey Zhong, 6-2, 7-5. The Mountain Hawks' Catherine Meighan won at No. 6 over newcomer Vivien Ruettgers (Graefelfing, Germany), 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, Gutierrez and Ma-Ajong fell at No. 1 to Can and Gonzalez, 6-1. In No. 2 doubles, Lehigh's James and Imhof knocked off Cutipa and Rossa, 6-1. SFU's Seigford and Ruettgers dropped a 6-0 decision to Zhong and Leigh Friedman at No. 3.

Saint Francis returns to action at Youngstown State on Friday, Jan. 31 at 12 p.m.
