Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) picked up a victory at No. 1 singles, but the Red Flash women's tennis was unable to overcome Youngstown State in a 6-1 defeat on Friday at the Avalon Athletic Center.
Seigford bounced back after dropping the first set to knock off Imaan Hassim, 5-7, 6-4, 10-3. In No. 2 singles, YSU's Tamara Teufl beat
Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN), 6-2, 6-3. SFU's
Anouk Ma-Ajong (Paramaribo, Suriname/Sagemont) dropped a narrow 6-4, 7-6 (1) decision to Lucia Zagar at the No. 3 position.
In No. 4 singles, the Penguins' Cassandra Moraleja knocked off
Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru/San Juan Bosco), 7-6, 6-3. The Red Flash's
Camryn Rossa (Charleston, SC/Oceanside Collegiate) fell at No. 5 to Claudia Barboza, 6-4, 6-1. YSU won No. 6 by default.
In No. 1 doubles, Hassim and Barboza defeated Gutierrez and Ma-Ajong 7-6 (4). Teufl and Zagar secured the doubles point with a win at No. 2 over off Cutipa and Siegford, 7-5.
Saint Francis returns to action at Cleveland State on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 3:30 p.m.
