Francis de Vries Named to NEC Mount Rushmore

SOMERSET, N.J. – The Northeast Conference unveiled its men's soccer Mount Rushmore on Friday. Saint Francis alumnus Francis de Vries ('17) was honored as one of the top four student-athletes in NEC history for men's soccer.

The defender earned post-season accolades all four years with the Red Flash. De Vries became the first player in program history to be named an All-American by the United Soccer Coaches, earning three selections (2014, 2015, 2016). He is also the only player in program history to be named NEC Defensive Player of the Year, doing so twice (2014, 2015). De Vries earned an Academic All-American nod from CoSida following his senior season.

De Vries earned all-region honors each of his four seasons in a Red Flash uniform and was a four-time All-NEC First Team selection. He was also selected to the All-Tournament Team after his junior and senior seasons.

During his Saint Francis career, de Vries totaled 15 goals, six assists and 75 shots. He started in all 79 games he played and boasted eight game-winning goals. De Vries' five game-winning goals as a sophomore ranked 11th nationally. As a senior in 2016, he helped solidify a back line that recorded a school-record 10 shutouts and a 0.72 GAA.
