Gutierrez highlights Red Flash performance in defeat to Cleveland State

Cleveland, Ohio – Saint Francis senior Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) picked up a singles win and teamed up with senior Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) for a doubles victory, but the Red Flash fell to Cleveland State 6-1 on Saturday at Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.

Gutierrez dominated her No. 2 singles match, winning 6-2, 6-3 over Blanche Lenoan. The Bogota, Columbia native then paired with Seigford at No. 1 doubles to knock off Klara Mrcela and Lara Prosenjak, 7-5.

In No. 1 singles, Seigford fell to Mrcelas, 6-2, 6-2. CSU's Sian Payne defeated Anouk Ma-Ajong (Paramaribo, Suriname/Sagemont) at No. 3, 7-6 (6), 6-2. SFU's Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru/San Juan Bosco) fell at No. 4 to Gaby Schoenberg, 6-2, 7-6 (3). The Vikings' Kateryna Avram won at No. 5 over Camryn Rossa (Charleston, SC/Oceanside Collegiate), 6-0, 6-3. The Red Flash fell at No. 6 by default.

In No. 2 doubles, CSU's Lenoan and Avram knocked off Rossa and Ma-Ajong, 6-3. The Vikings won at No. 3 by default to secure the doubles point.

Saint Francis returns to action hosting Marshall on Sunday, Feb. 2. First serve at the Ebensburg Tennis Center is set for 4 p.m.
