Women's tennis records victory over Mercyhurst, 5-2

Erie, Pa. – Saint Francis women's tennis picked up a 5-2 victory over Mercyhurst on Saturday at the Westwood Racquet Club. The Red Flash used four singles wins and took the doubles point to record the match win.

In No. 1 singles, SFU's Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) knocked off Naomi Jahr, 6-2, 6-2. Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) won at No. 2 over the Lakers' Nada Ostojic, 7-6, 3-6, 6-2. The Red Flash's Anouk Ma-Ajong (Paramaribo, Suriname/Sagemont) took No. 3 over Emily Gordon, 7-5, 7-5.

Mercyhurst's Ivona Plecevic defeated Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru/San Juan Bosco) at No. 4, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. SFU's Camryn Rossa (Charleston, SC/Oceanside Collegiate) won at No. 5 over Athina Tsagkaraki, 6-0, 7-5. In No. 6 singles, the Red Flash's Vivien Ruettgers (Graefelfing, Germany) fell to Alana Lewis, 6-0, 6-1.

In No. 1 doubles, Gutierrez and Seigford knocked off Plecevic and Ostojic, 6-3. Cutipa and Rossa secured the doubles point with a win over Gordon and Jahr at No. 2, 6-4. Ma-Ajong and Ruettgers fell at No. 3 to Janice Theodora and Tsagkaraki, 6-0.

Saint Francis returns to action at Bowling Green on Friday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.
