Men's tennis sweeps Juniata and falls to Penn State

State College, Pa. – Saint Francis men's tennis picked up a 4-0 win over Juniata on Sunday. The Red Flash also fell to Penn State 5-1 at the Penn State Tennis Center.

In the first meeting with the Eagles since 2009, SFU recorded wins in singles at No. 2, 3 and 4. The Red Flash also secured the doubles point by virtue of taking the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches.

In No. 2 singles, SFU's Andrew Teixeira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/ETEC Getúlio Vargas) defeated Xavier Huerta, 6-0, 6-2. The Red Flash's Daniel Vinces (Lima, Peru/Universidad de Piura) knocked off William Michelson at No. 3, 6-2, 6-0. Jordi Garcia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Vallès) won at No. 4 over Juniata's Seth Strawser, 6-1, 6-0.

In No. 1 doubles, SFU's Sebastian Pinos (Quito, Ecuador/Compuinformatica) and Vinces took down Ilia Buralkin and Huerta, 6-2. The Red Flash's Samuel Ghigiarelli (Aruja, Brazil/Jacksonville College) and Garcia swept Robert Singer and Trey France, 6-0.

In the day's early match, Saint Francis met Penn State for the first time since 2002. SFU's only singles win came at No. 6 by default. Full results from the match can be found here.
