Women's tennis celebrates Senior Day

Ebensburg, Pa. – Saint Francis women's tennis honored the stellar four-year careers of senior captains Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) and Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) on Saturday at the Ebensburg Tennis Center. The Red Flash fell to Eastern Michigan, 5-2.

Gutierrez had the lone singles win of the day at No. 2 in a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 triumph over the Eagles' Vasavi Ganesan. In No. 1 singles, Seigford fought back after dropping the first set to force a decider, but couldn't overcome Marie Mayerova, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

SFU's Anouk Ma-Ajong (Paramaribo, Suriname/Sagemont) won the first set at No. 3 before falling to Isabelle Pompa, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. EMU's Emma-Lou Pommiers defeated Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru/San Juan Bosco) at No. 4, 6-3, 6-4. In No. 5 singles, the Red Flash's Camryn Rossa (Charleston, SC/Oceanside Collegiate) dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Morgan Ingram. Local product Kristen Lucas (Hollidaysburg, PA/Grier School) made her spring collegiate debut in a 6-0, 6-0 loss to the Eagles' Julia Piatek.

Saint Francis won the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Ma-Ajong and Lucas teamed up at No. 2 to knock off Ganesan and Pompa, 7-6 (9). Cutipa and Rossa defeated Pommiers and Ingram, 6-2. Gutierrez and Seigford fell at No. 1 to the tandem of Mayerova and Piatek, 6-1.

Saint Francis has two weeks off before returning to action at Northern Kentucky on Friday, March 13 at 7 p.m.
