GAME NOTES VS. FRANCISCAN
need to know... The game between Saint Francis and Franciscan marks the 38th edition of the series dating back to the 1947-48 season.
• It will be the fourth meeting since the series was renewed under head coach Rob Krimmel in 2017-18.
• Saint Francis leads the series 26-8 and have won the last 14 games in the match up.
• The two teams battled at least once a year from 1958-74.
• It will be third time that Franciscan will serve as the Red Flash's home opener. The two teams tangled in the first game in Loretto in 1960-61 and 2017-18.
• The statistics and record for the game will count for Saint Francis, but since Franciscan is not an NCAA Division I opponent, record and player stats for the Barons do not count unless they win.

a sfu win would... Have the team open the season with a 1-1 record for the 30th time since the 1950-51 season and the fifth time under head coach Rob Krimmel.
• Improve the team to 53-8 in home openers dating back to the 1950-51 season, and 8-2 in home openers under Krimmel.

next on tap... After the game on Monday, the Red Flash will play its next three games on the road to close out the month of November.
• The squad will travel to Virginia Tech on Thursday, Cornell on the day before Thanksgiving, and Lehigh on the final Sunday of the month.
• Saint Francis will open the month of December with a home contest against Bucknell on December 1.

the word on the barons... Franciscan comes its exhibition game against Saint Francis with a 1-1 record after setting a school record with 115 points in a 115-101 win against Penn State Fayette on Sunday.
• Josh Zimmerman (17 points, nine rebounds), Justin Mack (16 points), Sean Hickey (16 points), Tristan McDannell (15 points) and Yann Yonkeu (12 points) all scored double figures in the win.
• Mack leads the team with 18.5 points per game. Hickey (16.5 ppg.), McDannell (15.0 ppg.) and Zimmerman (12.5 ppg.) are all averaging double figures in points.
• Nicholas Allienello paces the team with 8.5 rebounds per game, while Zimmerman is second with 7.0 rebounds per game.

last time we met... Tyler Stewart scored 15 points to lead Saint Francis past Franciscan 116-66 on December 17, 2019. 
Mark Flagg (13 points), Myles Thompson (12 points) and Keith Braxton (10 points) all found double figures in the win.
• Sean Hickey (17 points) and Matt Trent (12 points) led the way for the Barons.
• The Red Flash outscored Franciscan 52-26 in the first half and 63-40 in the second half en route to third-straight win under head coach Rob Krimmel against the Barons.

last time out... Saint Francis was edged by George Washington 75-72 in the season opener for both teams on November 9.
• Redshirt senior Mark Flagg paced the Red Flash with 17 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Redshirt senior Ramiir Dixon-Conover added 17 points and eight rebounds.
• Senior Myles Thompson, and sophomores Ronell Giles, Jr. and Maxwell Land each chipped in nine points in the loss.
• The Red Flash closed the final five minutes of the game on a 14-2 run to make it a one-point game with the ball in the waning seconds of the game. The squad had a shot blocked and a missed layup before George Washington secured the rebound.

home openers... Saint Francis opened up its 117th season on November 9 at George Washington and will have its first home game on Monday.
• The Red Flash opened up the season on the road for the 37th time since 1950-51 and for the 15th time since the turn of the century. 
• Saint Francis is 28-8 in the home opener after starting on the road dating back to the 1950-51 season, and it is 32-3 in the season opener being at home for a combined 60-11 in the first game of the season in Loretto.
• Last season, the squad lost to UMBC in the home opener 80-65 on November 28, 2020 after opening the season with a win against Pittsburgh.

start to the season... Saint Francis looks to begin the season 1-1 for the 32nd time since the 1950-51 season.
• With a win, the team would be 1-1 under head coach Rob Krimmel for the fifth time in his tenure and for the second-straight campaign.
• The Red Flash have also started 0-2 four times under Krimmel.
• Since 1950-51, the Loretto program has also opened the year 2-0, 12 times and 0-2, 26 times.
• Saint Francis has posted 11 winning seasons after opening the year 1-1 and five times starting 0-2 didn't deter the overall season with a winning mark. The Red Flash has also finished with a .500 record twice with a 1-1 start and twice with an 0-2 beginning since 1950-51.

only flagg in name, not on his play... Redshirt senior Mark Flagg started his final season in red and black with 17 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.
• With his 17 points, Flagg now has exactly 800 points for his career.
• He also had two blocks to move into a fourth place tie with Earl Brown (105, 2012-15) and Emmanuel Adekunle (105, 1994-98) on the program's all-time career rejection list with 105 blocks. Flagg can take over fourth place alone with one block and can move into a third-place tie with Jerry Mack (109, 1985-89) with four rejections.
• Flagg is now one of six players with 100 blocks, and if he reaches 110 knock aways he would be only the third player in team history with 110 blocks

continuing where he left off... Redshirt senior Ramiir Dixon-Conover was the team's leading scorer in 2020-21. He posted double figures in 15 of the last 18 games he played including 14 of his last 15 games.
• Dixon-Conover had five 20-point performances lastseason, and nine games with at least 18 points.
• He started this season in similar fashion with 17 points and eight rebounds against George Washington on November 9.
• Dixon-Conover is averaging 19.0 points per game in his last two season openers after registering a career-high 21 points against Pittsburgh. He would match his carer best scoring output two more times in 2020-21.

preseason poll... Saint Francis was picked eighth in the Northeast Conference preseason poll. Wagner College received seven of the 10 first place votes to be selected as the preseason favorite. Bryant University picked up two first place nods to finish second, while Mount St. Mary's University earned the final first place selection to place fourth. Long Island University, Merrimack College, Sacred Heart University, St. Francis Brooklyn, the Red Flash, Fairleigh Dickinson University and Central Connecticut State rounded out the 10-team poll.

flash return... Saint Francis returns all, but two players from last year's team.
• The squad returns 91 percent of its minutes, points and rebounds from last year.
• The Red Flash also returns its Top-6 scorers from 2020-21 with redshirt senior Ramiir Dixon-Conover leading the way with 15.5 points per game and senior Myles Thompson ranking second with 10.1 points per game. Redshirt senior Mark Flagg led the team on the boards with 6.0 rebounds per game.

captain, my captain... Redshirt senior Ramiir Dixon-Conover, senior Myles Thompson and sophomore Luke Ruggery have been named team captains for the 2021-22 season.
• Dixon-Conover and Thompson were also team captains in 2020-21.

20-point club... Redshirt senior Ramiir Dixon-Conover leads the team with five games with at least 20 points in his career. Dixon-Conover registered four 20-point performances in 2020-21 and one in 2029-20.
• Redshirt seniors Mark Flagg and Tyler Stewart, and senior Myles Thompson both have one 20-point performance in their career. Flagg posted his 20-point game in 2018-19 while Stewart and Thompson both recorded their 20-point game in 2019-20.
• Sophomore Ronell Giles, Jr. posted two 20-point games last year with his career-best 21 points in the first match up against Bryant.

double vision... Senior Myles Thompson and redshirt senior Mark Flagg each have three career double-doubles and sophomore Josh Cohen registered his first career double-double as a freshman in 2020-21.
• Flagg posted the first double-double of this season with 17 points and 17 rebounds against George Washington on November 9.
• Cohen, Flagg and Thompson each have double-doubles that are points and rebounds. Redshirt senior Ramiir Dixon-Conover has two double-doubles in his career, one with points and rebounds and one that is with points and assists against Bryant last season.

boards up... Redshirt senior Mark Flagg has five double-digit rebound games in his career, including a career-high 17 caroms against George Washington on November 9. 
• Senior Myles Thompson ranks second on the team with three 10+ rebound games, while sophomore Josh Cohen has one in his career.

within hop, skip and a jump of loretto... Saint Francis has three local players on the team. Senior A.J. Labriola (Altoona), junior Ben Seidel and redshirt sophomore Luke Ruggery (Duncansville) all hail from within 30 minutes of the Saint Francis campus.

coaches dream team... Head coach Rob Krimmel has assembled a coaching staff with strong ties to Saint Francis.
• Krimmel, a 2000 graduate of Saint Francis, was an Academic All-American.
• Assistant coach Eric Taylor, a 1998 graduate, was a three-time All-NEC selection, ranks 23rd in program history in points (1,287) and fifth in rebounding (967).
• Graduate assistants Ronnie Drinnon, an All-NEC first team selection as a senior and Jamaal King, who was named to the all-conference first team in his last two seasons, both played for Krimmel and also have etched their name into Saint Francis lore. King ranks 10th in program history in points (1,517 points) while Drinnon is 11th in rebounding (804). Drinnon graduated from Saint Francis in 2016 and King graduated in 2019.
• Assistant coach Luke McConnell, a 2012 Saint Francis graduate, played on the Red Flash football team as a student-athlete. McConnell is the son of former Saint Francis men's basketball head coach Tom McConnell (1992-99), while his cousin T.J. McConnell is in his seventh season in the NBA.
