Former Red Flash men's soccer defender, Francis de Vries, was named to the New Zealand National Team final squad on Monday, November 1.
His first match he appears in will be the first cap of his career.
While with the Red Flash, de Vries appeared in 79 matches he played during his career and finished with 15 goals, 6 assists, and 36 points. Those accomplishments helped him land two NEC Defender of the Year Awards (2014 and 2015), an ECAC Defender of the Year (2014), and a 3 time NSCAA All American Choice (2014-2016).
His defensive ability allowed the Red Flash to have a career high 10 clean sheets in the 2016 season as he anchored the back line.
After his senior year, de Vries was drafted 29th overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft to the Vancouver White Caps and sign a United Soccer League contract with White Caps FC 2 where he appeared in 20 matches for them.
After a season with the White Caps, de Vries would sign with Canterbury United where he would score his first professional goal appearing in 15 matches.
Spending one season with Canterbury, he signed with Nyköpings BIS and appeared in 11 matches before finally signing with IFK Värnamo.
With IFK Värnamo appeared in 46 matches and scored 3 goals with the team.
