Pittsburgh, PA. – The Saint Francis University Swimming team travels to Pittsburgh for a quick day trip to go head to head vs the Dukes of Duquesne University on Saturday February 27
th at 1:00 pm.
The Red Flash and Dukes have met a total of 15 times since 2007 where the Dukes lead 13 wins to two. Their last matchup was January 25
th 2020, in Pittsburgh, where the Dukes won the meet 191-94.

SCOUTING THE DUKES
Duquesne hosts the Red Flash in their second meet of the season. The Dukes last competed on January 28
th where the visiting Bulls of Buffalo University took down the Dukes 175-68.
They were eleven and four and a second-place finish on the season leading into the A10 championships. Last February the Dukes placed third at the event behind a Hanna Everhart gold medal performance's in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, and 800-yard freestyle. COVID ended their season and shots at the CSCAA National Invitational and the NCAA championships.
Freshman Laura Goettler is already a gold medalist this season with one in January against Buffalo. She also tallied two second-place finishes in the 50-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Leah Reisker, Mara Voytek, Audrey Steen
finished second in the event with a mark of 1:38.62.
In the 100-yard breastroke the Dukes finished first and second from Steen and Clare Flanagan.
THE RED FLASH
Saint Francis kicks off their season for the first meet of the year this upcoming weekend. The Red Flash come off a fourth-place finish at the NEC Championships a year ago in February before COVID ended their season before the NCAA championships. SFU concluded their 2019-2020 season at 8-6 and 1-0 in conference. This season they are picked to finish fourth in the NEC's.
A strong Senior class looks to get back into action this season after a little over a year off.
Emelia Cronshaw, Abigail Hutchins, Urska Medvesek, Katelyn O'Connor, Jacquelyn Rocque, and
Jessica Rupp are all ready to hit the pool in hopes of an NEC Championship season.
Junior
Amelia Laudenbach is back after an impressive showing at the NEC Championships where she placed second in the 200 backstroke, third in the 400-yard medley, fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, and sixth in the 500-yard free. Laudenbach tallied eight first place finishes last season and five second place finishes. Amelia totaled 22 top-five finishes in the 2019-2020 season.
Senior
Urska Medvesek returns for her final season for the Red Flash after a sixth-place finish in the 800-yard free relay, 10
th place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, and 12
th place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. She tallied five first place finishes last season and four second place finishes. Medvesek totaled 19 top-five finishes the entire season to put her as a top contender this season for SFU.
Sophomore
Krysta Weik returns after finishing 11
th in the 100 breastroke for her best finish of the tournament. She notched a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley and tallied two second place finishes in the 2019-2020 season.
Standout freshman
Marija Dodik and
Nicole López Kohlmann are sure to make a splash for the Red Flash this upcoming season. These are two of the newcomers to be sure to keep an eye on.
"We are excited to race again, finally! It has been over a year since the last time we competed against another team," said head coach
Phil Hurley, "There is bound to be some nervous energy but that is a good thing. I think that we are ready to swim fast and I think some of the swimmers are going to surprise themselves with their times. It should be a lot of fun!

THE SCHEDULE
The Red Flash will hit the road, competing in Pittsburgh this Saturday February 27
th against Duquesne. The meet kicks off at 1pm at Towers Pool.
