Men's Tennis Set for NEC Championships

LORETTO, Pa. – The Northeast Conference Tennis Championships are scheduled to begin on Friday and conclude on Sunday with the tournament being single-elimination format. The SFU men will face Mount St. Mary's at 10 a.m.

Location: Mercer County Tennis Center (West Windsor, N.J.)

FAN POLICY
Fans will be permitted to attend the NEC Tennis Championships. Spectators must remain at least 12 feet away from student-athletes and coaches at all times, wear a mask that covers the face and nose, practice appropriate social distancing between groups (families may sit together) and comply with all venue, local and state COVID-related protocols. Spectators may not interact with student-athletes before, during or after the conclusion of the event. Tailgating is strictly prohibited.
 
SERIES WITH THE MOUNTAINEERS
The Red Flash men faced the Mountaineers twice this season, dropping the first match and winning the second. SFU dropped a tight 4-3 match on March 14. The Saint Francis men won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Daniel Vinces and Jordi Garcia each won their singles matches in straight sets.

On March 20, the Red Flash men won by a 5-2 margin. The SFU men earned all five of their points in singles matches, with four of the five victories coming in three sets, in addition to winning at No. 3 doubles. 
 
PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS
BRYANT
The Bryant men enter the championships as the No. 6 seed after being selected first in the preseason coaches' poll. The men hold a 4-0-1 record on the season but have not played an NEC match. The Bryant men hold wins against Merrimack, Army and two against Boston University with the tie coming against Quinnipiac to conclude the regular-season campaign.

FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON
The Fairleigh Dickinson men enter the NEC Championships as the top seed after being selected second in the preseason coaches' poll and will receive a first-round bye. The FDU men hold a 4-3 overall record but are a perfect 4-0 in NEC matches, beating Sacred Heart, St. Francis Brooklyn, Saint Francis and Mount St. Mary's.

MOUNT ST. MARY'S
The Mount St. Mary's men will be the No. 4 seed at the NEC Championships after being selected fourth in the preseason coaches' poll. The MSM men hold a 3-5 overall record and a 1-2 NEC record this season, splitting with Saint Francis and also losing to Fairleigh Dickinson.

SACRED HEART
The Sacred Heart men will also be the No. 3 seed at the NEC Championships after being selected third in the preseason coaches' poll. The SHU men went 2-7 during the regular season and was 1-3 against NEC teams, beating Saint Francis but falling to Fairleigh Dickinson, Merrimack and St. Francis Brooklyn.

ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN
St. Francis Brooklyn earned the No. 2 seed at the NEC Championships after being selected fifth in the preseason coaches' poll. SFBK finished 2-1 this season with all three of its matches being against NEC schools. The Terriers beat Sacred Heart and Merrimack but fell to Fairleigh Dickinson.

WAGNER
The Wagner men earned the No. 7 seed at the NEC Championships after being selected sixth in the preseason coaches' poll. The Seahawks men lost both of its matches this season, falling to St. John's and NJIT, and did not play a conference match.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Both the Red Flash men concluded the regular season with a win last week, beating West Liberty 6-1. SFU won all three doubles matches in addition to earning five singles points.
