Kenny's Fourth Quarter Tally Fuels Saint Francis Field Hockey Past Merrimack, 3-2

>> Eugenia Kenny (Buenos Aires, Argentina) scored the decisive goal in the 48th minute to propel Saint Francis past Merrimack 3-2 in Northeast Conference field hockey action on Friday.
>> Kenny also added an assist on the first Red Flash goal to finish the afternoon with three points.
>> Carysse Norris (Narvon, Pa.) also found the twine to help the Loretto program improve to 3-2 in league play with two NEC games remaining.
 
TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
After Merrimack rallied from two goals down to tie the match early in the third quarter, Kenny found the back of the cage off a feed from Ella Maillie (Reading, Pa.) at the 47:35 mark. The Warriors had three penalty corners in the final 81 seconds, but could not push across the game-tying marker. Amber Bryan (Thorndale, Pa.) made a huge save with 65 seconds left to preserve the victory.
 
FLASH MOMENTS
Claudia Ortiz (Madrid, Spain) got the scoring started off a penalty-corner feeders from Kenny and Eva Valentini (Junin, Argentina) at the 4:20 mark.
 
Norris then beat the first quarter horn to give the Red Flash a two-goal lead off Chloe Butz's (Stroudsburg, Pa.) first career assist.
 
Bryan made the one crucial save to earn the win in the final 30 minutes, while Chloe South (California, Md.) got the start and turned away two shots in the winning effort.

FLASH NUGGETS
Coming into the weekend, Kenny and Norris both have three home games left in their collegiate careers and both notched their first collegiate tally in the match. Kenny had three assists in three separate matches before notching a goal and an assist for a career-high three points against Merrimack.
 
Kenny now has a goal and four assists for six points in her career with a goal and two assists for four points against the Warriors. It also marks the second time this season the senior has been in on the decisive goal after dishing out the assist on the game-winner in a 3-2 win against Rider on September 30 and then scored the game-winner on Friday.
 
Ortiz now has three goals this season and nine goals and four assists for 22 points in her career.
 
Valentini notched her fifth assist of the season and now has 11 goals and five assists for 27 points to move into seventh place in single-season program history for points. The sophomore has accumulated 19 goals and 11 assists for 49 points in her career to move into sixth place on the program's all-time career points list.
 
Maillie has a goal and two assists for four points this season and a marker and six assists for eight points in her career. Butz notched her first career assist after recording her first collegiate goal against Brown on September 2.
 
The Red Flash have a winning record after five NEC games for the fourth time in team history. Both the 2007 and 2010 teams were also 3-2 at this point in the season, while the 2012 squad was 5-0.

With the win, Saint Francis has moved into a three-way tie for third place with Fairfield and LIU with two games to play. The Red Flash can clinch a spot in the upcoming NEC Tournament with wins in each last two league games or a win and an LIU loss.

 Saint Francis returns to action on Sunday when Stonehill comes to town for the first meeting between the two programs. Match time is 12 p.m.
