OPENING TIP
• Saturday's game between Saint Francis and Hartford marks the fourth meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 2009-10 campaign.
• The Red Flash leads the series 2-1 after defeating the Hawks 81-66 last season.
• It will be the second meeting against Hartford in Loretto and first since the inaugural meeting in 2009-10.
THE WORD ON HARTFORD
• The Hawks come into the contest 1-1 after defeating Northern Vermont-Lyndon 85-43 on Thursday.
• Briggs McClain paced Hartford in the win with 21 points and Braxton Jones added 14 points in the win.
LAST TIME WE MET
• Ronell Giles, Jr., led four Saint Francis scorers with 17 points to power the Red Flash past Hartford 81-66 on December 14, 2021
• Josh Cohen (15 points), Maxwell Land (15 points) and Ramiir Dixon-Conover (13 points) also found double figures.

JACK PHELAN CLASSIC NOTES
• This game on Saturday is in honor Phelan for his contributions to both Saint Francis and Hartford. • Jack Phelan played 85 games in his career with 955 points, 210 rebounds and 353 assists. He shot 54.4 percent (411-for-755) from the floor and 63.3 percent (133-for-210) from the free throw line.
• Phelan posted 42 points in an 89-85 overtime win against Duquesne on January 14, 1977 that established the most points scored at DeGol Arena.
• Along with his DeGol Arena record, he left as the program's all-time leader in assists and ranked second in field goal percentage. He now ranks eighth in both categories. Saint Francis was 41-37 in his final three years.
• Phelan served as Hartford's head coach for 11 seasons and is one of four coaches in men's basketball team history to amass 100 career wins.
• Phelan was the head coach at Hartford during its transition from NCAA Division II to I in 1984-85, while his career at Hartford was highlighted by a 17-11 record in 1989-90.
• After he left Hartford, he served as the athletics director at Farmington High School and passed away in June 2020. He is inducted both Athletic Hall of Fames.
OTHER TIDBITS
• The Red Flash opened up the season on the road for the 38th time since 1950-51 and for the 16th time since the turn of the century at Saint Bonaventure on Monday.
• Saint Francis makes its DeGol Arena debut and is 29-8 in the home opener after starting on the road dating back to the 1950-51 season.
• The Red Flash is 32-3 in the season opener being at home for a combined 61-11 in the first game of the season in Loretto.
• The Loretto program defeated Franciscan 100-54 on November 15, 2021 in last year's home opener.
• Saint Francis is 7-3 in home openers at DeGol Arena under head coach Rob Krimmel. NOTE: The first home game of the 2013-14 season against Navy was a 60-57 win at the War Memorial in Johnstown. The first game in Loretto was a 75-43 loss to American.
• Hartford is in its transition from Division I to Division III and has seven scholarship players. It will be the sixth time under Krimmel the Red Flash will face a non-Division I opponent in the home opener.
• Saint Francis will return to action on Monday at home against Cornell. The Red Flash will have five of its first seven games at home.
