LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis men's soccer goalkeeper
Jordaine Jaeger (Munich, Germany/Gymnasium Neubiberg) has been named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year, the conference announced Tuesday. In addition to the award, Jaeger was joined by fellow freshmen
Milan Djajic (Belgrade, Serbia/Rudjer Boskovic) and
Julian Jakopovic (Stuttgart, Germany/Schickhardt-Gymnasium Stuttgart) in receiving NEC All-Rookie Team honors.
Â
Jaeger's honor comes after a stellar rookie campaign, registering five shutouts and only allowing 19 goals this season. The freshman made 75 saves with a save percentage of .798 in all 16 matches that he started in net for.Â
Â
The goalkeeper tallied two double-digit save matches this season. He gathered 10 saves in the team's 1-1 draw against nonconference Yale and a career-high 16 saves against NEC opponent St. Francis Brooklyn where the Red Flash defeated the Terriers, 2-1.
Â
Jaeger's reliability in the net this season also earned him NEC Rookie of the Week three times and a Prime Performer six times. Jaeger is the first player in the program's 38-year history to be named NEC Rookie of the Year.
Â
Djajic made five starts in his debut campaign, playing in 13 matches for the Red Flash. The forward scored three goals this season, tied for the most on the team. The rookie scored the match-winning goal against St. Francis Brooklyn twenty minutes after scoring his first goal of the match. His performance that week earned him NEC Player and Rookie of the Week as well as a Prime Performer.
Â
Jakopovic, a fierce competitor, started all 16 matches for the Red Flash. The midfielder led the team in minutes played with 1,327. Jakopovic collected two assists, including an assist on
Sean Smolyn's match winning goal against St. Bonaventure in the team's season opener. Â
Â
Saint Francis finished the 2022 campaign with a 6-6-4 record and made their first NEC Tournament appearance since 2019 after finishing fifth in the final standings with a 3-2-3 conference record. The Red Flash were eliminated in the first round of the tournament on November 6 by No. 4 seed Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Connecticut, 0-1.
