Ardonntrell Williams (Voorhees, N.J.), a member of the Saint Francis men's outdoor track and field team, has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year for his sport, announced by the league on Thursday.
Williams, who graduated from Saint Francis in May, won the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.18 and was ran the second leg of the winning 4x100m relay team (40.86) at the NEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He was one of six men's athletes in the league to participate in the NCAA East Preliminaries in Florida and finished 35th in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.02. He also placed third in the 110m hurdles at the IC4A Championships with a time of 13.99. Williams won the 110m hurdles in five of the eight competitions he participated in. Named the NEC Track Athlete of the Week once this season, he holds the second-fastest time in Saint Francis history in the 110m hurdles with his winning time at the NEC Championships this year.
A three-time NEC Champion, Williams won the 110m hurdles in 2021 and 2023 along with being a member of the 4x100 relay team this year during the outdoor season. In addition, he has earned the silver medal three times in his career after taking second in the 60m hurdles in 2022 and 2023 at the NEC Indoor Track and Field Championships and finishing second in the 110m hurdles at the 2022 league's outdoor track and field championships. Williams won the 110m hurdles at the IC4A Championships and finished 37th in the event at the NCAA East Preliminaries last year.
Williams, who registered a 3.838 grade-point average in accounting, has been named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll and the NEC Commissioners Honor Roll three times for the outdoor season and was selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team in 2023. Williams has also been named to the Dean's List at Saint Francis.
Williams becomes the sixth different Red Flash men's track and field athlete to earn NEC Scholar-Athlete accolades and marks eighth time in program history. Ryan Sheehan (2004, 2005), A.J. Suravicz (2006), Ian Butcher (2007), Chris Behre (2010) and Bryce England (2016, 2017) have also represented the black and red as NEC Scholar-Athletes.
Along with Williams, 17 Saint Francis men's track and field athletes have been named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll and six have earned NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll standing. To be eligible for the NEC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post at least a 3.2 grade-point average and a 3.75 grade-point average or better to be named to the NEC Spring Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.
