SOMERSET, N.J. – Saint Francis men's soccer forward
Fabian Wagner was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Wagner joins teammate
Jordaine Jaeger in being a Prime Performer.
Wagner, a native of Grunsfeld, Germany, scored the match winning goal in the Red Flash's 1-0 victory over Bucknell Tuesday afternoon. In the 71st minute of the match, the freshman finished a
Patrick Heron cross with a stunning bicycle kick for the tally past the Bison's goalkeeper. The goal was Wagner's first of his collegiate career. Wagner also picked up three shots in the team's scoreless draw at Longwood Saturday afternoon.
Jaeger, a native of Munich, Germany, preserved two clean sheets this past week to contribute to Saint Francis' undefeated streak. The sophomore goalkeeper made four saves against the Bison and one against the Lancers. Jaeger has now recorded seven shutouts in his collegiate career.
The recognition is Wagner's first of his collegiate career and Jaeger's first of the season. Jaeger was named NEC Rookie of the Year in 2022 after being named Rookie of the Week three times and a Prime Performer six times last season.
The Red Flash have collected Rookie of the Week every week this season with
Álvaro Planas (8/28),
Joschi Schelb (9/5, 9/11) and Wagner (9/18) all earning the recognition.
Saint Francis will open NEC play at Stonehill Thursday, September 21 at 3:00 p.m.
