Trent Meyers (Altoona, Pa.) (48th place, 81) rounded out the Red Flash players. Hoey played in last year's conference championships, while Cascino, Jurica, and Meyers are in their first league event.
Hoey carded three birdies (three, four, 13) and eight pars in the first 18 holes. Jurica recorded a birdie on 13 and nine pars in the opening round, while Cascino registered a birdie on 11 and 11 pars. Meyers had a pair of birdies (one and nine) and eight pars in the first round.
Howard leads the event after the opening round with a score of 283, two strokes ahead of LIU (285). Sacred Heart (288), FDU (294), Binghamton (300), Le Moyne (300), North Carolina Central (303), Wagner (307), Merrimack (307), UMES (312), and Saint Francis (315) rounded out the 11-team field after the first round.Â
NEXT TIME ON THE GREEN
The Red Flash will be paired with UMES in the second round and start on the second tee. Meyers will be the first on the course at 7:50 a.m., followed by Cascino (8 a.m.), Jurica (8:10 a.m.), Hoey (8:20 a.m.), and Godbout (8:30 a.m.).
