Softball Earns No. 3 Seed in the Austin Regional

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University softball earned a No. 3 seed in the Austin Regional, hosted by Texas, from May 17-19. The Red Flash open the 2024 NCAA Regionals on Friday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. ET against Northwestern.

The Austin Regional features host Texas, who is the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, Northwestern, Saint Francis and Siena. Texas and Siena will open the regional on Friday at 4 p.m. ET.

The 2024 Saint Francis team joined the 2017 team as the only two in program history to earn a No. 3 seed in an NCAA Regional. The Red Flash won its first and only NCAA Regional game in program history in 2017 over New Mexico State, 8-4.

Saint Francis traveled to the Austin Regional in 2021 as a No. 4 seed and dropped its two games against Texas and Oregon.

The Red Flash faced Siena twice this season in Charleston, S.C. and defeated the Saints 4-1 and 4-3. Saint Francis is 3-1 all-time over Siena. Saint Francis' 12-0 loss to Texas in the 2017 NCAA Regionals is its only game against the Longhorns. Saint Francis and Northwestern will meet for the first time in program history on Friday.

Saint Francis earned its automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after a 12-0 run-rule victory over Central Connecticut in the Northeast Conference Championship. The Red Flash have now qualified for the NCAA Tournament in six of the last seven seasons.
