LORETTO, Pa.- Saint Francis tennis had seven total players named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the association announced Tuesday. Marie Discini, Kelly Dowuona, Nagisa Miyake, Valeria Vinces, Marc Fuste, Kevin Kruzel and Patrick Reese all earned recognition.
College Sports Communicators (formally CoSIDA) recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
In order to be eligible to earn a CSC Academic All-District selection, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, own a grade point average above 3.50 and must compete in 90 percent of contests or start in at least 66 percent of contests.
Discini, a nursing major, earned an overall GPA of 3.64. The senior from Marietta, Ohio. appeared in 17 singles matches and 19 doubles matches in the 2023-24 season. Discini went 3-1 in singles matches during conference play.
Dowuona, earned an overall GPA of 3.54 as an exercise physiology major. The sophomore from Brampton, Ontario went 16-8 in singles matches and 19-11 in doubles matches this season. Dowuona was named a NEC Prime Performer twice this year.
Miyake, a communications major from Aichi, Japan who earned a 3.78 overall GPA, finished her senior campaign with a 14-5 singles record and a 9-5 doubles record.
Valeria Vinces earned a 3.67 overall GPA as a marketing/management major. The senior from Lima Peru finished with a 12-8 singles record on the year.
Fuste, a senior from Barcelona, Spain, earned a 3.88 overall GPA. The marketing/management major played all 19 of his singles matches in 2023-24 from the No. 1 spot. Fuste went 10-14 in singles on the year and was named NEC Second Team All-Conference in singles.
Kruzel earned a 3.53 overall GPA as a marketing major. The junior from Lombardi, Ill. finished his first season at Saint Francis with a 10-13 singles record and 18-9 doubles record. Kruzel's doubles win total was good for third most in the NEC. He was twice named a NEC Primer Performer this season.
Reese earned a 4.00 overall GPA as a finance/accounting major. The sophomore from Greenville, S.C. went 8-9 in singles matches and 6-2 in doubles matches during the 2023-24 season.
Academic All-District honorees will be evaluated by a CSC sub-committee to determine their candidacy for the Academic All-America ballot.
