Morgan Gott Elevated To Saint Francis University Women's Lacrosse Head Coach

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University Director of Athletics James Downer elevated Morgan Gott to women's lacrosse head coach. She becomes the eighth head coach with the Red Flash going into its 24th season in program history in 2025.

"I am incredibly excited and pleased to elevate Morgan to the head coach position," said Downer. "She has played an integral and substantial role in the recent success of the program, including helping to lead us to 18 victories over the past two seasons while advancing to the NEC Tournament for the first two times in team history. I am confident that Coach Gott is the right individual to continue our upward trajectory. Moreover, I'm certain her dedication and leadership will help further fuel our women's lacrosse program towards championship contention."

Gott, who will enter her third season with the Red Flash lacrosse program and first as the head coach in 2025, was an assistant coach for the past two campaigns to help the team to its best two-year stretch in program history.

"I am very excited to be stepping into the role of head coach of the Saint Francis women's lacrosse program," said Gott. I would also like to thank our Director of Athletics, James Downer, for allowing me to step into this position. His belief in me to lead the program made the decision a very easy one. I am very grateful for the community Saint Francis has given me to grow as a coach in this sport."

During her last two seasons, the Red Flash went 18-14 overall and 12-6 in league play and advanced to the NEC Tournament for the first two times in program history. The Red Flash registered a program-record 10 wins in 2023 and an NEC-best seven victories in 2024. During both seasons, the team posted a team-record six-game winning streak.

"I have learned a tremendous amount during the last two seasons as the assistant here under Tracy Coyne," said Gott "She has taught me a lot about what it means to lead a team on and off the field, and I am grateful for the knowledge she has passed down to me. What we accomplished in the last two years together was historic, and the program will continue to have that championship mindset and compete for a NEC Championship title."

Gott worked primarily with the defense in her first two years and helped the defense hold an opponent under 10 goals a game 12 times, including a program-record seven times in 2024. The Red Flash were 12-0 in those contests.

She coached the first two season major award winners in program history (NEC Midfielder of the Year and NEC Rookie of the Year), nine All-NEC selections (four first team; five second team), and two NEC All-Rookie selections. In addition, Gott coached the second-ever player to play in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association North-South All-Star Game and an NCAA Woman of the Year nominee.

Gott came to Loretto from Eastern Michigan University, where she served as an assistant coach in 2022. Gott helped Eastern Michigan prepare for its' first collegiate season in 2022-23. She also served as an assistant coach at George Mason University from the fall of 2018 to December 2020 and at Mary Washington University, an NCAA Division III program, for one season before heading to George Mason.

George Mason went 11-7 and advanced to the Atlantic-10 semifinals in 2019. The squad was then off to a 4-3 start in 2020 before the pandemic cancelled the rest of the season. Under her guidance, goalkeeper Melissa Semkiw was named to the All-Atlantic-10 first team and to the 2020 All-Atlantic-10 preseason team. In 2021, US Lacrosse Magazine ranked her the sixth-best goalie. Additionally, Gott mentored 2019 Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Year Deanna Balsama.

Gott helped Mary Washington to a 17-5 record in 2018. The team advanced to the NCAA Division III National Quarterfinals but lost to eventual national champion Gettysburg.

Gott started coaching as an assistant coach for the 2016-17 season with Roanoke. The Maroons lost in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Quarterfinals that season.

Gott has also served as a head coach of Club Teams: Denver Summit (2021), Yellow Jackets Mid Atlantic (2021), CRASH Lacrosse Club (2018-19), Mid-Western Force (2016-17), and NESLL Club (2013).

Gott was a four-year letterwinner for the women's lacrosse team at Coastal Carolina from 2013-16. She appeared in 61 games in her career. Part of the inaugural team in program history, Gott helped the Chanticleers to a pair of 11-win seasons and Big South Tournament berths in her final two campaigns.
