Saint Francis men's soccer swept the NEC's weekly awards, with goalkeeper Diego Garciarena named Player of the Week and freshman Harry Elmore earning Rookie of the Week honors after the Red Flash's 1–0 win over FDU.
Garciarena (Asunción, Paraguay) was sensational in goal, setting a new career high with 13 saves to record his third shutout of the season and help the Red Flash clinch a postseason berth for the fourth-straight year. He made multiple key stops in each half, including a diving save in the 52nd minute and two crucial late-game denials in the 76th and 86th minutes to preserve the 1–0 lead. Through 10 starts this season, Garciarena has logged 900 minutes in net with 40 saves, three shutouts, and a 1.50 goals-against average, continuing to anchor one of the NEC's top defensive units.
Elmore (Manchester, England) earned his first collegiate honor after scoring the game-winning goal—and his first collegiate goal—in the second minute of the match. The decisive strike came on a brilliant team counterattack initiated by Julian Quiroga, with Thero Mitchell III finding Elmore on the run for a composed finish inside the box. The freshman nearly doubled the Red Flash lead midway through the first half with a deflected shot that narrowly missed the crossbar, continuing to make an impact in his debut campaign.
With the victory, Saint Francis remains undefeated at home in NEC play and continues to hold the No. 1 spot in the conference standings, securing its spot in the upcoming NEC Tournament.
The Red Flash return to action on Thursday, Oct. 30, when they travel to face Stonehill at 3:00 p.m. at W.B. Mason Stadium in North Easton, Mass. Saint Francis earned a 2–0 win over the Skyhawks last season and holds a 2-0-1 all-time record in the series.
