Saint Francis Men's Soccer NEC Championship Bound With Win Over LIU In Semifinals

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> The Red Flash are championship bound for the NEC postseason tournament after defeating LIU 2-0 in the semifinal match at Stokes Soccerplex Thursday.
>> Julian Quiroga scored his first career goal for the Red Flash.
>> Alex De Nittis found the back of the net to give the Red Flash a cushion. 

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME
The Red Flash came out attacking right away holding possession the majority of the first half. At the six minute mark, Quiroga sent a rocket to the back of the net that brushed over the finger tips of the LIU goalkeeper. Saint Francis was able to carry out the remaining 39 minutes with a one goal lead over the Sharks.

Seven minutes into the second half, De Nittis capitalized on a shot outside of the box on the left side that whizzed past the diving goalkeeper to the back right lower corner of the net. The Red Flash were able to hold to take a breather as they now had a two goal cushion on LIU. Saint Francis held on for the next 38 minutes battling bac and forth with the Sharks with possession held and shots taken. The Red Flash being out shot 10-9, were still able to hold onto this key win to send them to the championship game on Sunday.

FLASH MOMENTS 
Thero Mitchell III at 7:51 took a shot on goal that was saved by LIU's goalkeeper.

Jonah Wolf had a scoring opportunity at 8:28, but missed just left of the goal.

De Nittis made an attempt on in the first half, however, his shot was saved by the Shark's goalkeeper. The junior had another chance early in the second half at 46:42, however, missed just high of the goal.

Thiago Pires at 46:17 had a chance, however, hit the right post, respectively.

Quiroga made tried to put another between the posts, but missed right.

Volkan Celikkol had a scoring opportunity at 83:38, but the ball landed in the hands of LIU's keeper.

FLASH NUGGETS
Bolivia native, Quiroga, scored his first collegiate goal in post season tournament fashion at Stokes Soccerplex. 

De Nittis scored his fifth goal of the season, leading the Red Flash in goals. He is also leading in points with 13 and tied with assists with three.

For the first time since 2016, the Red Flash will be competing in the championship match of the NEC tournament. The Red Flash and the Knights will match up for the first times since 2012 on championship Sunday.

The Red Flash are championship bound where they will take on the Knights of FDU on Sunday at 12 p.m., in Teaneck, N.J. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
