OPENING DRAWÂ
Saint Francis will open its 23rd season in program history at Akron on Tuesday and then will host Youngstown on Saturday for its home opener. This will be the head coaching debut for first-year head coach
Morgan Gott at Akron and her home debut leading the team against Youngstown State.
Â
The meeting against Akron will be the fifth meeting in the all-time series and the second tit in Ohio. The Red Flash leads the series with the Zips including taking the last two meetings and a 12-6 win in the inaugural matchup in 2020 in Ohio. It will be the second time the two teams will square off in the season opener after the Zips edged the Red Flash 8-7 in the 2021 lidlifter.
Â
The tilt against Youngstown State will be the second battle in team history after the two teams opened the 2022 season in Ohio. The 2022 season opener was also the last time before this season the Red Flash opened a season at an indoor facility. This will be the Penguins first trip to Loretto holding a 1-0 lead in the all-time series.
FOR OPENERSÂ
Saint Francis will open the season on the road for the second-straight season and the 16th time in program history. The Red Flash are looking to win the season opener for the second time in team history after defeating Longwood at home on February 22, 2023. The squad is looking to open the season with a win on the road for the first time.
Â
FOR OPENERSÂ AT HOME
When Youngstown State comes to town, Saint Francis will be looking to open its home schedule with a win for the first-straight time and the eighth time in program history (2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2023, 2024). The Red Flash has won consecutive home openers three times in team history (2010-11, 2015-16, 2023-24), but a win against the Penguins would mark the first time the team has won three-straight home openers.
