For the first time this season and the fourth time overall,
Mia DiGenova, a junior goalkeeper for the Saint Francis field hockey team (King of Prussia, PA/Bishop Shanahan), has been named NEC Defensive Player of the Week. She's also earned NEC Prime Performer recognition for the second consecutive week. Additionally, this is just the seventh time in Saint Francis' field hockey history that a player has received NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors. The other two players to earn this recognition were fellow goalkeepers Chloe South in 2021 and
Amber Bryan in 2023.Â
DiGenova had a strong showing last week, starting twice in goal for the Red Flash and surrendering just six goals on 22 total shots against Ball State and Indiana, a Big Ten Conference opponent. This performance helped Saint Francis split the weekend and notch its third win of the season.Â
Furthermore, For the first time this season, sophomore midfielder Cruz Cánepa from Barcelona, Spain, was named NEC Prime Performer after notching her first assist and scoring her first goal of the year in her young college career.
The Saint Francis Red Flash make their grand return to Loretto on Friday, Sept.19th, for their NEC conference opener against the Sharks of LIU.Â
