Sophomore Sofia Zielinski, sophomore Morgan Pasternak, and junior Aliya Garroway, members of the Saint Francis softball team, were recently named NEC Prime Performers after an impressive weekend at the Cal Baptist Invitational.
Zielinski (Phoenix, Ariz., Xavier College Prep) was a standout at the plate, breaking her career high with four hits in one game by going 4 for 4 with three RBIs against CSU Bakersfield. Overall, her tournament statistics were 8 for 18 (.444) with three extra-base hits and a total of five RBIs. Pasternak (DuBois, Pa., DuBois Area) finished the second tournament of the season strong, going 7 for 16 (.438) with three extra-base hits and four RBIs. As of this writing, the underclassmen lead the team in RBIs (10) and total bases (19) and are tied for first in home runs (2) and hits (11). Garroway (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) continued her strong performance from last season, going 8 for 13 (.615) with one extra-base hit and an on-base percentage of .722 (13 for 18).
The Red Flash softball team is back in action this weekend as they participate in the Battle of the Bay from Friday, Feb.20, to Sunday, Feb.23.
