Red Flash Swimmers Drop Final Dual Meet of Season

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. (Feb. 1, 2008) – Saint Francis had 18 swimmers score team points, but St. Bonaventure's depth was too much to overcome as it defeated the Red Flash 146-59 in their final dual meet of the season on Friday night at the Reilly Center Pool.

 

Saint Francis dropped to 6-5 on the season, and will now wait for the Northeast Conference Championships, which take place Feb. 14-16. The Bonnies improved to 7-2 on the year.

Senior Sirae Riley (Lebanon, Pa. / Cedar Crest), sophomore Blair Kosela (Cresent, Pa. / Moon Area) and freshman Melissa Heintz (Boyertown, Pa. / Oley Valley) were three of the Red Flash swimmers who stood out by scoring points in three events during the meet.

Riley aided Saint Francis' 200-yard medley relay team to a third place finish with a time of 1:54.87. She also helped the 400 freestyle relay team to a second place finish in 3:42.68, a Top-10 time for the program, and then took third in the 50 free style with a time of 25.67.

Kosela was also on the 400 freestyle relay team, but also had top finishes in two other events. She took second in the 100 freestyle in 55.09, and also finished fourth in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.42.

Heintz was also on the 400 freestyle relay team. She then came away with second place showing in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:19.82, which qualifies as fifth-fastest in program history, and also took fifth in the 50 freestyle in 26.49.

Additionally for the Red Flash, sophomore Stephanie O'Donnell (Prospect, Conn. / Woodland Regional), sophomore Kristen Low (Mississauga, Ontario / Cawthra Park S.S.) and junior Katie Snyder (Dayton, Ohio / Butler) came away with second place finishes.

Low finished just off the pace in the 200 IM, where she touched the wall in 2:15.08, and then took fifth in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.38. O'Donnell was on the 400 freestyle relay team, but also had a strong individual effort in the 100 freestyle, where she took third in 56.00. Snyder took second place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.42.

Saint Francis will now prepare for the Northeast Conference Championships, which will take place Feb. 14-16 at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. Central Connecticut State, Mount St. Mary's, Sacred Heart, St. Francis-NY and Wagner will also take place in the conference meet.
