LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 21, 2008) – Sophomore goalkeeper
Lauren Fearer (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant Area) (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant Area) got her first shut out of the season and the Saint Francis women's soccer team showed a new sense of urgency as they beat the Temple Owls 3-0 on Saturday afternoon and the DeGol Soccer Complex.
“After Friday's game we were exposed to our weaknesses, which we now put into strengths,” said head coach
Brenda van Stralen. “You don't win games with just good, possessive soccer; you need more than that. Today we had it, and it resulted in 3-0 win over Temple. Keep your possessive game, but put hard work and intention in it and you have our game.”
The Red Flash, who are now 3-1-4 this season, will travel to Virginia to take on the Longwood Lancers in a 7:00 PM contest on Sept. 26 in Farmville.
Both teams played solid defensively for most of the first half before
Brittni Grenninger (Chicora, Pa/Karns City ) (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) scored her first goal of the season 42:55 into the game. Grenninger was unassisted as she shot into the left corner from 4 yards out to give the Red Flash a 1-0 lead.
Less than two minutes into the second half, freshman midfielder
Traci Flick (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and sophomore forward
Kate Bosy (Scotia, N.Y/Scotia Glenville) (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia Glenville) came together to put the Red Flash up 2-0. Flick, who had 4 shots on the day, caught her own rebound and sent it over to Bosy, who tipped it in from 2 yards out. The goal was Bosy's first of the season.

Rachael Seibert (Murrysville, Pa/Franklin Regional) (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) caught a pass from senior defender
Jennilee Morrison (Jeannette, Pa./Jeannette) (Jeannette, Pa./Jeannette) and sent it past Owls goalkeeper Kara Williams to put the game away at 3-0.
Fearer had 4 saves in the game, while the Red Flash had 17 total shots to the Owls' 7. Seibert led the way for the Flash with 5 shots, 4 coming on goal. Senior forward
Alanna Vespa (Ancaster, Ontario/Saint Mary’s Catholic) (Ancaster, Ontario/Saint Mary's Catholic) had four shots.
