Red Flash Swimming Tripped Up by Zips

AKRON, Ohio (Jan. 16, 2009) – The Saint Francis swim team hit the pool hard in their first meet since December 6, but couldn't top the University of Akron and fell to the Zips by a score of 129-74 on Friday night in Akron.

Freshman Jessica Dunn (Bristow, Va./Seton School) (Bristow, Va./Seton School) was the only individual winner for the Red Flash. Dunn took the 200 yard individual medley in a time of 2:12.59, two seconds faster than Akron's Julie Reynolds.

The Flash also captured the 400 yard freestyle relay. The foursome of Dunn, Elise Merrill (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring), Blair Kosela (Cresent, Pa/Moon Area) (Crescent, Pa./Moon Area) and Melissa Heintz (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) touching first in a time of 3:41.24.

Heintz took third in the 100 yard freestyle, finishing in 55.24. Kosela was right behind her at 56.65.

Dunn placed second for the Flash in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:01.16. Merrill finished in third place, touching the wall in 1:02.44

Elyse Peterman (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) captured second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.52, and Katie Snyder (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) took third, finishing in 1:11.37.

The Red Flash will remain in Ohio for a meet with the Youngstown State Penguins at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
