Pool Records Fall as Red Flash Swim Past Saints 183.5-78.5

LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 24, 2009) – Freshman Jessica Dunn (Bristow, Va./Seton School) (Bristow, Va./Seton School) broke the pool record in the 200-yard backstroke and the 400-yard freestyle relay quartet set a new pool mark as well as the Saint Francis swim team downed the Saints of Siena College 183.5-78.5 at the Stokes Center on Saturday afternoon.

Dunn lowered her team record as she set a new pool mark in the 200-yard backstroke, taking first place in a time of 2:08.14. Her time shattered the old pool record of 2:11.09, set by Marina Shport in 2004.

The foursome of Elise Merrill (Carlisle, Pa/Big Spring) (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring), Blair Kosela (Cresent, Pa/Moon Area) (Crescent, Pa./Moon Area), Melissa Heintz (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) and Angela Marino (Holidaysburgh, Pa./Holidaysburgh Area) (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) set a new pool record in the 400-yard medley relay, touching in 3:40.54, just two one-hundredths of a second off of the old mark.

Heintz took first in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:58.31. Kosela picked up three points for the Flash, taking third in 2:01.88.

Dunn grabbed another victory in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:00.22. Merrill took third place in the event with a time of 1:01.42.

The Red Flash swept the 100-yard breaststroke, with Chloe Pierre (Valencia, Pa./Mars) (Valencia, Pa./Mars), Elyse Peterman (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and Katie Snyder (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) going one-two-three, respectively. Pierre finished in 1:10.52, with Peterman behind her at 1:12.31 and Snyder rounding out the top three at 1:12.50.

Pierre and Low went on to finish first and second, respectively in the 200-yard breaststroke. Pierre touched in 2:34.47 with Kristen Low (Mississauga, Ontario/Cawthra Park S.S) (Mississauga, Ontario/Cawthra Park) behind her in 2:34.71.

The Flash went on to take first, second and third in the 200-yard butterfly as well. Abi May (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) took first in that event with a time of 2:15.32 while Low picked up a second place finish in 2:15.86. Elise Dobrick (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) rounded out the scoring in third, touching the wall in 2:16.38.

May also won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:00.43.

Kosela won the 50-yard freestyle, sprinting to the wall in 25.62, while Marino touched second in 25.90.

Heintz picked up another win in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 54.81, and then went on to claim victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.05.

Dobrick took first in the last individual event, the 200-yard individual medley, in a time of 2:21.12.

The Red Flash will remain in Loretto to host LaSalle at 3 p.m. on January 30. They will then host Saint Bonaventure at 1 p.m. on the 31st.
