Dunn, Lyon Each Claim Wins as Red Flash Fall to Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 23, 2010) – Sophomore Jessica Dunn (Bristow, Va./Seton School) (Bristow, Va./Seton School) claimed three individual victories while freshman Kathleen Lyon (King George, Va./King George) (King George, Va./King George) picked up to first place finishes as the Saint Francis swim team fell to the Siena Saints 148-143 on Saturday afternoon in Loudonville, N.Y.

The Red Flash are now 6-5 on the season.  They will travel to La Salle on January 30 for a 1:00 p.m. match up with the Explorers. 

Lyon picked up a win in the first individual event of the day, the 1,000-yard freestyle, with a time of 10:45.18.  She also grabbed first in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 2:10.69. 

Dunn earned a victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.94.  She also earned the win in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:09.94, as well as the 200-yard individual medley.  Dunn touched the wall in 2:14.82 the IM.

The Red Flash took second in the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of Elise Merrill (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring), Chloe Pierre (Valencia, Pa/Mars) (Valencia, Pa./Mars), Hanna Yttring (Gothenburg, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) (Gothenburg, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet)  and Alicia Ford (Whitney Point, N.Y/Whitney Point) (Whitney Point, N.Y./Whitney Point) combining for a time of 1:52.66.

Freshman Erin Bieger (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:55.  Yttring took a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.62.  Teammate Melissa Heintz (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) picked up third in the event. 

Merrill claimed the 50-yard freestyle, with Ford right behind her in second.  Merrill touched the wall in 24.72, with Ford at 25.25.

Ford took second in the 100-yard freestyle just two events later, with a time of 54.55.  Heintz grabbed fourth in the event, with Kosela in fifth. 

Merrill took second in the 200-yard backstroke, behind teammate Dunn, with a time of 2:13.02.

Lyon and Bieger went two-three in the 500-yard freestyle, touching in 5:17.29 and 5:22.79 respectively.  Yttring then earned her first win of the day in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.96.  SFU's Abi May (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) took second in the event, coming in with a time of 1:01.38.

The Red Flash picked up second place final event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay.  Merrill, Yttring, Kosela and Ford combined for a time of 1:39.17
