LORETTO, Pa. (March 22, 2010) – SFU lacrosse players
Kate Simmons (Delran, N.J./Delran) (Delran, N.J./Delran) and Danielle Conwell (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) have been honored by the Northeast Conference for their performances against Wagner and Long Island this past week, as announced by the league on Monday.
Simmons was named the NEC's Co-Player-of-the-Week after tallying nine goals, an assist, five ground balls and seven draw controls to lead the Red Flash past both Wagner and Long Island for their first ever NEC winning streak. The New Jersey native scored the game-tying goal against the Seahawks before grabbing the ground ball that led the game-winning goal with just 12 seconds left in overtime. Simmons also contributed three goals, four draw controls and a ground ball in the Red Flash's win over LIU. She now leads the league in goals with 26 on the season.
To earn her second NEC Rookie-of-the-Week award, Conwell seven goals, seven draw controls and two assists to help the Red Flash start a two-game winning streak as they open conference play. The New Jersey native also added in a ground ball and a caused turnover over the course of the weekend. Against the Seahawks, Conwell notched two goals and two assists for a total of four points and seven draws. She also led the team past the Blackbirds with five goals, two of which came on free-position shots.
Saint Francis will host Liberty on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at DeGol Field in Loretto.
