Women's soccer earns 10th win with victory over CCSU

LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 17, 2010) – The Saint Francis University women's soccer team reached a double-digit win total for the second time in program history and jumped four spots in the Northeast Conference standings with a 3-1 win over Central Connecticut State on Sunday afternoon.

Not a bad day, to say the least, for the Red Flash who also upped their record at the Stokes Soccer Complex to 7-0 on the season.

With four games remaining on the schedule – two of which are in Loretto – SFU is now in sole possession of second place with 12 points, trailing only Long Island.  The Blackbirds are 5-0-1 in league play and have racked up 16 points.

Central Connecticut – which entered the contest on a four-game unbeaten streak – played the Flash to a 0-0 tie in the first half before the Saint Francis offense took control.

Freshman Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Caraco de Jesus) scored the game's first goal 22 seconds into the seconds half, tapping home a long cross from Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville).

McKibben tacked the Red Flash to a 2-0 lead less than two minutes later with an unassisted goal struck from over 20 yards out.  The tally was the sophomore's team- and league-leading 12th of the season.

Senior Haleigh Dunyon (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) (Long Beach, Calif./Woodrow Wilson) added her eighth goal of the season in the 61st minute on a free kick just outside of the box to increase the SFU lead to 3-0.

Central notched its only score of the contest in the 75th minute on a Cilo Tregear header after a corner.

Winning goalkeeper Lauren Fearer (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant Area) (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) finished the game with two saves.

Saint Francis (10-4-1; 4-2-0 NEC) hits the road on Friday when it visits Sacred Heart for a 7 p.m. contest.
