LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 30, 2009) – Women's soccer player Rachael Seibert (Murrysville, Pa/Franklin Regional) (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) was named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District First Team for District II, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.
Seibert, a senior forward, leads the team in points with 21 points. She also leads the team with eight goals and five assists, and sits tied for second in the Northeast Conference in goals.
An Elementary Education/Special Education major, Seibert boasts a 3.5 grade point average. She has been named to both the SFU Academic and Athletic Department honor rolls numerous times. Seibert helped the soccer team to raise over $5000 for Relay for Life and volunteers at the Hollidaysburg YMCA. She is also a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the National Education Sorority.
With her election to the All-District team for District II, Seibert moves to the national ballot. She was one of two players from the Northeast Conference to be elected to the first team, with Monmouth's Ali Kliment being the other nominee.
To be considered for the team, student-athletes must maintain a grade-point average of 3.3 or higher, be a contributor on their team and participate in extracurricular activities.
The Red Flash will battle for a playoff spot when they face the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Sunday in Connecticut.
