New Britain, Conn. – The Saint Francis women's lacrosse team fell short against the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils, 17-3, in the Red Flash's fourth Northeast Conference encounter.
Freshman bruiser Meg Lamarche (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) potted two tallies for the Red Flash's endeavors while junior goal leader Meghan Crosby (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) added her 10th cage buster in the dropped decision to CCSU. All three Red Flash markers were unassisted.
Lamarche held her own, firing four shots overall in Friday night's drizzly affair. One of the youngster's tears came on a successful free position attempt, while overall; three of her shots were made with good intentions. The freshman stalwart also grabbed two loose eggs and one draw. Defensively, Lamarche created one turnover.
Crosby maintained her accurate season shot total, converting one goal on three shots on cage. The hard-nosed midfielder joined a ground ball, draw control and a created turnover to her statistical output.
Senior Kati Kenyon (Glenmont, N.Y./Niskayuna) accounted for two shots while freshman forward Val Vultaggio (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) sent one ball towards the target to balance out the rest of the SFU offensive attempts. Kenyon also hauled in two ground balls and disturbed CCSU for one turnover.
Junior defenseman Corri Smeak (Frederick, Md./St. John's) discovered the most ground balls for SFU with four while sophomore Lauren Roth (Dover, Pa./Spring Grove) ran away with two draw controls.
Junior keeper Katie Godshall (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) earned her first start of the season, surrendering nine goals on 15 shots. Freshman netminder Danielle Pokusa (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) relived her counterpart, also turning away six shots. Pokusa let eight spheres through while picking up one ground ball.
At 23:21, Crosby disrupted CCSU's 4-0 lead with an unassisted marker in the first period. The Blue Devils acted in response with another 4-0 stint before Lamarche tore the twine at 11:01 on a free position goal. Central Connecticut retorted with another quartet of pipe cleaners, but Lamarche came back with one more response with just 00:18 seconds remaining in the first session to close out the score 12-3. Central Connecticut outshot the Red Flash 27-4 over the opening 30 minutes. The Blue Devils also had a 13-3 advantage on draw controls.
CCSU tagged on five more notches to finish out SFU's 10th loss in a row, 17-3.
Saint Francis (0-10) remains in Connecticut to take on NEC foe, the Quinnipiac Bobcats, at Quinnipiac Lacrosse Field at 12pm on Sunday, April 6 in Hamden.
