Swimming wraps up first day at Thomas Murphy Invite

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 5, 2010) – The Saint Francis University swimming team is in the midst of a strong weekend after day one at the Thomas Murphy Invitational at Loyola (Md.) University on Friday.  The Red Flash currently holds leads over Johns Hopkins (46-45) and Loyola (68-23) but trails Richmond (53-38).

Saint Francis kicked things off by taking third in the 400 medley relay with a strong swim by Jessica Dunn (Bristow, Va./Seton School), Elise Löfgren, Hanna Yttring (Gothenburg, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) and Alicia Ford (Whitney Point, N.Y./Whitney Point).  The foursome notched a top-10 of 4:01.26 in the event.

Freshman Jenny Demjanenko earned a fourth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a program top-10 time of 5:13.01.  Senior Melissa Heintz (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) was close behind in fifth place, swimming a 5:13.74.

The highlight of the day for the Red Flash was a win in the 200 individual medley by Yttring with a time of 2:10.77.  Dunn swam to a top-10 time of 3:13.09 in the event, good enough for a fourth-place finish on the day.

Ford provided another high point for Saint Francis, registering a second-place time of 24.50 in the 50 free.

The day wrapped up with the 800 freestyle relay, with the Flash taking fourth in the event.  The SFU entry of Megan Collins (Monroeville, Pa./Oakland Catholic), Demjanenko, Heintz and Kathleen Lyon (King George, Va./King George) compiled a time of 7:55.54, which was good enough for program top-10 honors.
