Win over Colonials clinches unbeaten September for women's soccer

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (Sept. 26, 2010) – Sophomore Tesa McKibben (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) (Cogan Station, Pa./Montoursville) scored two goals and freshman Barbara Maros de Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Coraco de Jesus) (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Sagrado Caraco de Jesus) racked up three assists as the Saint Francis University women's soccer team put the finishing touches on its first-ever unbeaten September with a 4-1 win at Robert Morris.

By winning its Northeast Conference opener SFU is now 7-2-1 (1-0 NEC), while the Colonials drop to 3-6-1 (0-1 NEC).

Saint Francis outshot Robert Morris 10-to-6 in the first half but, for much of the period, had nothing to show for it. That is until the 27th minute when Maros de Carvalho took the ball near the right sideline, striking a low cross eight yards out in the box. Freshman Codi Bixler (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights), who had just entered as a reserve, fired the first goal of her collegiate career with a shot back across the goal face.

Just 90 seconds later the Red Flash struck again.

This time, a blast from McKibben bounced down and hard off the crossbar, but Stephanie Boulter (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) pounced on the rebound. She shot low and inside the left post before the RMU keeper could recover from the initial shot.

The third and fourth Red Flash goals were nearly identical, as Maros de Carvalho fed McKibben from the left corner 10 yards from net. The lone difference in the strikes was that the second came via header.

The Colonials only goal of the game came in the 85th minute when Rachel Sebbens found space inside the right post from 19 yards out, spoiling SFU's shutout bid.

Red Flash goalkeeper Lauren Fearer (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant Area) earned the win in a complete-game effort, making 11 stops.

SFU outshot RMU 20-to-16 on the afternoon.

Saint Francis returns to action on Friday when they travel to Monmouth (5-3) for a 3:30 p.m. match.
